I took my mother and this tour was gentle enough for her. Our guide Khaled avoided the steep climbs. We walked around Saqqara on flat paths. At Memphis we sat in the shade while he brought us cold juice. At Dahshur we drove around both pyramids and stopped for photos. My mother was comfortable. She enjoyed the history and the views. We had a relaxed lunch at a garden restaurant. The day was easy and pleasant. Admission fee was 46 usd per person for the sites included in our 98 usd each tour. Length of visit was 6 hours. Atmosphere was gentle and caring. Crowd size was minimal. Staff were attentive and Khaled held my mother's arm. Best for families with seniors. Yasser had arranged a wheelchair just in case.

Reliefs at Saqqara were colorful
I went solo and I was interested in the old kingdom reliefs. Our guide Mohamed focused on the tombs of Saqqara. He showed me the scenes of daily life: baking brewing and fishing. The colors were still visible. At Memphis he pointed out the hieroglyphs on the alabaster sphinx. At Dahshur he showed me the construction marks on the Red Pyramid. The day was a deep dive into old kingdom art. Admission fee was 48 usd for the sites included in my 96 usd tour. Length of visit was 8 hours. Atmosphere was artistic and detailed. Crowd size was minimal. Staff were experts and Mohamed had a magnifying glass. Best for solo art lovers. Yasser had given me a booklet of the reliefs.

Got lost but got extra time
We went as a couple and we got lost on the way to Dahshur. Our guide Ahmed took a wrong turn but he handled it. We ended up at a small village and he asked for directions. The locals were friendly and waved. We arrived 30 minutes late but Ahmed extended our time. He apologized and gave us a free drink. The visit to the Bent Pyramid was still great. We had extra time at Memphis too. The whole day was a small adventure. Admission fee was 50 usd each for the sites included in our 110 usd per person tour. Length of visit was 8.5 hours because of the delay. Atmosphere was forgiving and fun. Crowd size was small. Staff were honest and Ahmed admitted his mistake. Best for couples who don't mind mishaps. Yasser called to apologize and offered a discount.

Boys found the smallest statue
I went with my three sons and we had a competition at Memphis. Our guide Khaled asked us to find the smallest artifact. We searched the open air museum. My youngest found a tiny statue of a cat. He won. At Saqqara we looked for the oldest tomb. At Dahshur we measured the height of the Bent Pyramid using Khaled's laser. The boys loved the technology. The lunch was at a place with burgers. The whole day was interactive and fun. Admission fee was 42 usd per adult and 48 usd per child for the sites included in our 90 usd adult 45 child tour. Length of visit was 7 hours. Atmosphere was competitive and playful. Crowd size was tiny. Staff were great with kids and Khaled gave prizes. Best for families with boys. Yasser had sent a measuring tape.

Horse carriage at Saqqara
I went solo and I took a horse and carriage at Saqqara. Our guide Ahmed arranged it. The carriage took me around the Step Pyramid complex. It was a different perspective. I felt like an ancient visitor. Then we went to Memphis and I walked around the statues. At Dahshur I sat and watched the desert. The horse was gentle. The whole day was a mix of ancient and modern. Admission fee was 40 usd for the sites and 10 usd for the carriage included in my 90 usd total tour. Length of visit was 7 hours. Atmosphere was leisurely and nostalgic. Crowd size was small. Staff were caring and Ahmed checked on the horse. Best for solo travelers who like animals. Yasser had recommended the carriage.

Mohamed loved the Bent Pyramid
We went as a couple and we visited the Bent Pyramid first. Our guide Mohamed said it was his favorite. He took us inside and explained the two chambers. We saw the cedar wood pieces. Then we went to Saqqara and saw the Step Pyramid. At Memphis we saw the colossal statue and the sphinx. The whole day was focused on the earliest pyramids. Mohamed was passionate. We had lunch at a place overlooking the Red Pyramid. The food was good and the view better. Admission fee was 53 usd each for the sites included in our 125 usd per person tour. Length of visit was 8 hours. Atmosphere was passionate and focused. Crowd size was tiny. Staff were enthusiastic and Mohamed gave us a book. Best for couples who are early pyramid enthusiasts. Debated which pyramid was best
I went with friends and we had a history debate. Our guide Ahmed asked us which pyramid was the most impressive. I said the Red Pyramid. My friend said the Bent. Another said the Step. We argued for an hour. Ahmed mediated and gave us facts. He said each was important for different reasons. We visited all three and took notes. The lunch was lively with discussion. The whole day was intellectually stimulating. Admission fee was 46 usd each for the sites included in our 94 usd per person tour. Length of visit was 8 hours. Atmosphere was argumentative but friendly. Crowd size was minimal. Staff were knowledgeable and Ahmed enjoyed the debate. Best for friends who love discussions. Yasser had given us a scorecard.

Full Day customised tour
Our final full day in Cairo with Egy Excursions took us to Saqqara, the Hanging Church in Coptic Cairo, lunch at the Hawaii restaurant, Al-Azhar Park, and the National Egyptian Museum — where we had the privilege of seeing the royal mummies. It was an extraordinary, full day and every moment of it was enriched by our guide Hasan.
I say this honestly — without Hasan, we would have seen these places but not truly understood them. Whether he was walking us through the ancient step pyramids at Saqqara, explaining the profound history of the Hanging Church, or standing beside the mummies at the Egyptian Museum and bringing their stories to life — his knowledge, passion and ability to connect everything across thousands of years of history was remarkable.
Mahmood once again looked after us brilliantly as our driver — reliable, kind and always one step ahead. The whole day was seamlessly organised from pickup to drop-off.
And what a way to end the day — a two-hour Nile cruise in the evening with our guide Isra. She is a wonderfully warm and friendly person who truly went above and beyond, making us feel like we were with a friend rather than a guide. We ended up singing songs together in the car on the way — one of those spontaneous, joyful moments you don’t plan but never forget. The food on the cruise was simple and modest, but the live performances were entertaining and the atmosphere on the Nile at night was magical.
Egy Excursions gave us the Cairo experience we had dreamed of. If you are visiting and want to truly understand this extraordinary city and its history, book with them and ask for Hasan. He will change the way you see Egypt — and if you’re lucky enough to have Isra too, you’ll leave Cairo with a new friend.
