Chris was really passionate about the topic and it gave us a completely different side to Tallin"s history than a normal tour . Chris was really great and explained the Soviet history with Estonia in a way I could understand and enjoy. My husband who really enjoys modern history really connected with what Chris was explaining to us . really fabulous .
This ended up as a private tour for me and my friend. Caroly, our guide, is a historian who educated us on life during the Soviet years in Tallin and Estonia. As she has wide knowledge of historical eras of the region, she was able to weave this information during our tour. Her enthusiasm was contagious. I'd highly recommend Caroly and this tour.

This tour was unbelievable and well work the money. The previous day we had somewhat similar group walking tour with general Estonia history. The Soviet Tallin and Cold War Private walking tour with Caroly greatly augmented the tour sites and added most interesting additional stops like the Russian Embassy protest banners and the 1980 Tallin Olympics site.
Really glad to hear that Cäroly could bring all these Soviet occupation-era layers alive for you, even after you had already taken some general history tour just a day before. There's simply so much packed between the Soviet invasion of the Baltics at the start of WWII, the atrocities and decades of occupation that followed, and the resistance that eventually returned the Baltics to sovereignty... and a general history tour can inevitably only ever touch these events in broad strokes, if at all. Wonderful tour through Tallinn’s old town and down to the waterfront. Much different perspective than the history given in the museums. The communist era clearly still touches a raw nerve here, and that was evident in the guide’s explanations of the sites. Also, the guide spoke excellent English.
Appreciate your kudos, Michael - means even more coming from people who've studied history themselves. And believe me, we would've loved to dump the whole Soviet communist occupation past in the landfill of history where it belongs, but we're sadly next door to a regime still nursing a 19th-century imperial fantasy, so the material stays current whether we like it or not.
Earlier this month we had a very informative walking tour in Tallinn, with an emphasis on the Soviet occupation during the cold war. Our guide Kristjan met us at our cruise ship and patiently answered our questions and provided valuable insight about this difficult time. He showed us important sites and gave us an important history lesson on life in Estonia during the 50 years of Soviet occupation. We certainly recommend this tour if you are in Tallinn and have the opportunity!

We have been on many tours all over the world, and Chris is an incredible guide, among the best we have ever encountered. He conveyed clear and thorough knowledge of Estonia's ventures into and out of independence over time, before, during, and after Soviet times. He is also quite personable, entertaining, and focused on the individual participants throughout the tour. This was an exceptional tour - we could not believe how quickly the time went by. Kris’s knowledge was fantastic and he was able to personalise the tour to our particular interests and keep both myself and my husband entertained throughout - no mean feat when we have very different levels of historical knowledge and interests. We absolutely would recommend this tour company and will use it for another tour should we revisit Tallin, which we hope to do.
