勝元さんは、鹿児島出身の西郷隆盛を描いた２００３年のハリウッド映画「ラストサムライ」に出演した。最後まで武士の精神を貫いた彼が生涯を終えたゆかりの史跡を訪ねる。ルートは、鹿児島市内を一望できる丘の上からスタートし、市内中心部の到着地点である西郷隆盛像まで下ります。知識豊富な地元ガイドと一緒に探索をお楽しみください。

鹿児島市の中心部にある高さ107メートルの展望台。ここからは活火山である桜島と市街の眺めを楽しむことができます。 城山はクスの大木やシダなどの植物が生い茂る自然の宝庫でもあり、日本最後の内戦である西南戦争の激戦地でもあります。ここから西郷隆盛の洞窟まで歩きます。
弘法大師像 (8 世紀の偉大な僧侶の一人、真言宗の開祖) 88 体のうち 13 体は、鹿児島を訪れる観光客が四国八十八ヶ所霊場の一部を体験できるように、1928 年に建立されました。石仏やお地蔵様が拝観できます。
ここは、西郷隆盛とその仲間たちが南北戦争最後の5日間を過ごした洞窟です。ここではガイドが西郷とその兵士たちの思いを解説し、武士としての精神を振り返ります。
鹿児島城の正門「五郎門」は、明治6年（1873年）に焼失しましたが、2020年に再建されました。ここでは、鹿児島の武士を育んだ鹿児島独自の郷土教育制度や五郎門の構造などをガイドが解説します。当時の武家社会。
ラストサムライのモデルとなった西郷隆盛の銅像。ここでは、南北戦争後の西郷隆盛の名誉回復から銅像の建立に至るまで、西郷隆盛という人物がどのようにして多くの人々の尊敬を集めてきたのかを解説します。

Great moment of history and sharing about the Japanese legend Saigo with a passionate and attentive guide Several stages for a duration of 2/3 hours on foot through the life of the last samurai I highly recommend it
Toru was our guide today! He was prompt, friendly, and informative. He gave us an idea of who the Samurai was and the history of the last Samurai! We watched the 2003 movie “The Last Samurai “ before going on the tour which gave some great background insights. It was amazing to see the area and history of Siego-san, Katsumoto.

Excellent tour guide Karin took us by foot around the key sites at Shiroyama Mountain, and explained very thoroughly about the Samurai culture and history embodied by Saigo Takamori. It was very peaceful, personal and extremely enjoyable. We had a great time! Highly recommend.

The experience was very interesting as Kuni guided us into the Samurai spirit of Kagoshima city, by showing us lit of spots where the last samurai lived and died. Kuni is a very kind man and very open to questions and jokes. We had great time with him.
