Mak is a wonderful tour guide. The tour was very informative, but what made it especially meaningful for me were the personal experiences and stories he shared along the way. They gave me a much deeper understanding of Sarajevo and left me with a lot to reflect on. This was one of the most meaningful experiences of my time in Sarajevo, and I will carry these memories with me long after I leave. Highly recommended.

Very informative especially because our guide actually lived through and fought in the war. His personal experiences brought it to life for us.

Our guide, Mak, was very polite and kind, as well as being extremely informative. He managed to engage our group of 6 at a sleepy hour. He didn't hesitate to show us the parts of Sarajevo which aren't in the guide books, and gave a poignant historical account of the events of the past 30 years. Mak was evidently very experienced, but his tour never once felt rehearsed; he was very passionate in showing us the real Bosnia, with its modern political problems on full display. A very nice chap — constantly cracking jokes. I cannot recommend the Roses of Sarajevo highly enough. 5 stars does not do it credit.

We had heard so many great things about Mak that I specifically requested him as our guide and even rearranged our schedule to make it work — and I’m very glad we did. Mak was absolutely fantastic: friendly, humorous, professional, incredibly knowledgeable, and very accommodating. With his background in international relations, he has an impressive depth of knowledge about Sarajevo, the war, and the wider historical and political context. We asked him countless questions throughout the tour, and he was always happy to answer them in detail. What made this tour most special, however, was Mak’s willingness to share his own personal stories and his family’s experiences during the war. Hearing history through the experiences of someone who actually lived through it brought everything to life in a way that no museum or history book could. Those personal stories were invaluable and were by far the part of the tour we appreciated most. This was easily one of the most memorable and impressive tours of our entire trip. Mak is an exceptional guide, and if I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would.

As a survivor of the Sarajevo siege, Mak shared his personal stories with honesty and emotion, making the history feel incredibly real and immediate. Going past his childhood apartment and hearing what he and his family lived through was one of the most moving moments of our entire trip. He also guided us through places where atrocities happened during the war, explaining the events with sensitivity and clarity. It was hard not to be emotional seeing and hearing what people endured, just over 30 years ago. Mak’s ability to explain the history of Yugoslavia and the Serbia–Bosnia dynamic gave us a much deeper understanding of the conflict and its lasting impact. The tour was heartbreaking, eye‑opening, and profoundly meaningful. Mak is an exceptional guide, and the personal way he shares these stories makes the experience unlike any other. We’re incredibly glad we chose to do this tour with him. It’s something we’ll remember for a long time, and a must for anyone visiting Sarajevo. Thank You Mak.

Absolutely one of the best tours I have ever taken. It's led by a war veteran, and they keep the groups small (my group was 3 people). Hearing the insights and perspective from someone who lived this tumultous time period first hand made this an extraordinary experience. The guide drove us to the places listed, then explained/elaborated on the artifacts on display. He included personal stories and shared the perspective of his friends and family from the time.

It is very worthwhile to take this tour to learn a little more about the siege of Sarajevo (guided by Latif, who fought in the war and hear accounts from those who were there) and visit other interesting places such as the bobsleigh track from the 1984 Winter Olympics, in addition to climbing one of the most strategic points for a panoramic view of the city.

An outstanding and worthwhile tour, Mak’s detailed explanations left us with a great understanding of the recent history of Sarajevo and Bosnia. His personal stories were most poignant and revealing. A tour not to be missed.

For my first visit to Sarajevo, I wanted to learn about the history, and this turned out to be the perfect tour. A fantastic mix of sites and info about the area made this a truly memorable visit. Thank you!
