An architectural masterpiece. The art is well worth a visit Escalators most of the way up to the building but last bit is stairs

This museum houses an amazing collection of medieval church frescos that look Byzantine to my uneducated eye - which have been reassembled from their original locations and displayed in a way that lets you experience how they originally appeared inside churches that are no longer extant. I am not Christian but can still appreciate the artistry and devotion represented in these works. Also a tremendous collection of modern Catalonian art. I am not really an art buff nor is my partner but we spent hours wandering through this museum and would call it a must-see in a city full of amazing sites. Only downside was it was not always easy to find written descriptions in English of the various works and so absolutely worth having a knowledgeable guide to enhance the experience.

The National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) is one of the most relevant museum institutions in the world, not only for the monumentality of its headquarters, but for housing the collection of mural painting that is the most complete and important Romanesque one on the planet. The history of the MNAC is inextricably linked to the Palau Nacional, the majestic neo-baroque building that dominates the mountain of Montjuic, designed as the great central pavilion of the International Exposition of Barcelona of 1929. In 1934 it was officially inaugurated as the Art Museum of Catalonia and the The 1990 Museum Law formally established the current MNAC, unifying the Palace's collection with the holdings of the former Museum of Modern Art. And between the end of the 20th century and 2004, the famous Italian architect Gae Aulenti led an ambitious architectural renovation to modernize the interior spaces, illuminate the galleries, and adapt the museum to international standards of conservation and exhibition. The visit has four main rooms: 1. Romanesque Art Room: the crown jewel; 2. Renaissance and Baroque Art Room: the great European bridge; 3. Modern Art Room I: from Neoclassicism to Modernism and Noucentisme; and 4. Modern Art Room II: Avant-gardes, Civil War and Postwar period Because on Montjuic mountain there are many cultural activities, but a gem called MNAC.

Visiting the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) was one of the highlights of my time in Barcelona. The museum is housed in a magnificent building, and the panoramic views of the city from the entrance are absolutely stunning. I enjoyed exploring the museum at my own pace, taking time to appreciate its impressive collection of Romanesque frescoes, Gothic art, Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces, as well as modern Catalan works. MNAC is well worth a visit. I highly recommend choosing the self-guided option if you prefer the flexibility to spend more time with the collections that interest you most. After the visit, I came at night to watch the free Magic Fountain show nearby, which was a wonderful way to end the evening. The synchronized display of water, lights, and music created a lively atmosphere, and it was a memorable experience to enjoy with so many people gathered in the square. It perfectly complemented my visit to the museum and made the outing even more special.

Neither at the Prado Museum in Madrid nor at the National Art Museum of Catalonia did I have success. Bad information, the guide does not show up, does not respond, and there is no specific phone number.

Bought 4 tickets for MNAC for our family (€12 each and reduced for <16, and students). Located in the most beautiful building high up on a hill (with moving escalators to help you get up on those warmer days!). The views are spectacular! In fact, you don't have to pay to go up to the views and walk around outside the building. We all had a great time despite age range - fabulous art and really interesting videos showing the process used to remove the art/mosaic from original sites in churches, restore and then reinstall in the museum. Great gothic art, modern art and a beautiful space in the museum itself (see pic of one of the ceilings), Lovely calm setting, loads of places to sit and just relax also. If you have fans of art then this is the place to go!

Masterpiece with Baroque/Renaissance art elements...built around 900...you can visit a spectacular museum.... specifically the modern art section where you can admire a fabulous Picasso. ..and the ancient section where you can admire Spanish painters and the Italian Tiepolo....\"Expulsion of the Money Changers from the Temple\". The terraces with a breathtaking view are a must-see.... Rating 10 out of 10...

It was difficult following along with my cell phone-a voice whisper to listen would be a great option

The museum is massive it take aa full 3 hours if not longer to get the full experience but afterwards you’ll feel better about it
