Costa Maya was one of the most disappointing cruise stops I have experienced. We paid $10 per person for a taxi to the Mahahual malecón, plus $30 each way for the cab ride. We were dropped off behind what looked like a rundown shack, and the whole setup felt sketchy from the start. They immediately started pressuring us to buy lunch and drinks, and the so-called “private pristine beach” was a joke — posts with milk jugs hanging from them, seaweed nets, and snorkeling not even included unless you paid more. It was a laughable setup and felt like a complete money grab. On top of that, the entire malecón was packed with aggressive vendors pushing souvenirs and services at every turn. It was not relaxing, not charming, and not worth the money. Unless you have a specific excursion booked that has truly solid reviews, this is an easy stay-on-the-ship port.
Thank you for your feedback. We believe there may be some misunderstandings regarding your experience. The package you purchased clearly states what is included: one meal and unlimited drinks. Our staff was simply doing their job by providing attentive service and checking if you wished to eat or drink—this does not increase your cost in any way, it’s part of the experience you paid for. Regarding snorkeling, at no point do we advertise or include snorkeling tours in our packages. We are a beach club and restaurant, and any external activities are optional services offered by third parties nearby. As for the vendors you mention, they typically move along with a simple “no, thank you” and do not insist. Your perception of the location and overall atmosphere is also not consistent with the vast majority of feedback we receive from our guests. We’re sorry your experience did not meet your expectations, but we stand by the transparency of our offering and the service provided by our team.
Absolutely lovely day with our 3 young children! Food exceeded expectations and facilities were gorgeous! I enjoyed every minute and it was my children’s highlight of our weeklong cruise.
Amazing food. Plenty to drink. Excellent service. Highly recommend. We would definitely go back. It was 12 of us and they went above and beyond.

Just had a wonderful day at the beach resort today in Costa Maya. We met Angel at the restaurant and he immediately helped us get settled on the beack with chairs, tables and shade on a great spot. He and the team (Ronnie and Monica) took care of us throughout the day with drinks and amazing food. Anything we needed, they were there to provide. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The beach was beautiful and it didn't seem crowded despite the 4 cruise ships that docked in port that day. Highly recommend this site for a relaxing beach day with great food and drinks!
It was not clean and server was not readily available. Food and drinks was very limited. Constantly bothered by vendors......repeatedly.

Unfortunately, We can't push out the vendors but with a simple "no thanks" they go away. We are not used to receiving this kind of review as you can see on TripAdvisor, Viator, and Google but We work hard every day to give the best experience to all our customers and sometimes fail. Excellent service, food, and drinks! Fernando, Tona, Monica, and Gustavo were top notch! Our group got massages and enjoyed them!
The food is very good, the service excellent, everyone is very attentive, especially our star waiter Jesus who informed us what to do and what he recommended us not wrong, Jesus see you next and we will try the tacos too, recommended 1000 percent
We had an excellent visit at Malecón 21. We were cruising on Princess and decided not to do the cruise line planned excursions. It was a simple process to get off the boat and get a taxi cab to the resort. The taxi cab ride is only 10 minutes and $4 per person. Once you arrive at the resort, they promptly check you in a show you to your comfortable lounge chair with cushion. There are numerous shaded areas to set up for the day. We did the gold package which is unlimited drinks and a lunch. Food and drinks were excellent. Fernando our waiter was amazing, we highly recommend him. He is a sweetheart and very accommodating. When it was time to leave Fernando requested a taxi and it arrived within a few minutes. I would not hesitate to return to this resort.
