James was an excellent storyteller (your welcome) :) The groups were well spaced, the whole tour was seamless. Highly recommend whether you have seen the movie or not.
Our visit to Hobbiton was one of the absolute highlights of our trip through New Zealand. The scenery, the incredible attention to detail and the whole atmosphere of the Shire were simply magical – but what made the experience even more special was our wonderful guide, Eric from Canada. Eric was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining throughout the entire tour. He shared so many interesting stories and little details with us and managed to make the tour feel both informative and relaxed at the same time. You could really tell that he enjoys what he does. We also had the chance to chat with him towards the end of the tour, and he was just as warm and lovely in person as he had been throughout the whole experience. Thank you, Eric, for making our visit to Hobbiton such a memorable one! We couldn’t have wished for a better guide and will definitely remember this day as one of the magical moments of our New Zealand journey. Highly recommended – and if you’re lucky enough to have Eric as your guide, you’re in excellent hands!
Hobbiton was such a neat experience! Mira was so welcoming and had much to share. She weaved the details together so perfectly. Enjoying the feast with new friends was a great time and made the experience. The bulgar wheat and beef were tasty, and the apple cider beer was very flavorful. We were so elated to dodge the storm and make it here on our anniversary! 13/04/2026
Absolutely amazing experience
We did the Hobbiton behind the scenes tour. It was fantastic and so well thought out. We had Mike as our tour guide, he was engaging, funny and understood why people, especially fans, would want to do such a lengthy experience. A true highlight was going inside a hobbit house, and we also must praise the meal in the mill, it was fantastic. It is important to highlight and praise the inclusively at the core of our experience. One of the party has significant mobility issues alongside chronic pain. We contacted hobbiton in advance and they were beyond helpful and understanding. They arranged for a golf cart to drive him around the set and make sure he could enjoy the entire experience without any exclusion. Driving the cart was Hayden, who was friendly, welcoming and really helpful. Hayden ensured that the experience was entirely positive. Hayden was fascinated by the infra red camera being used by one of the party, and we couldn't resist letting him try it out. these were his photos as promised.
It was one on the bucket list and worth it. To actually be in the set with so much detail and the guide telling behind the scenes information was epic. You will feel transported into the life of a hobbit.
GIVE JAMES A PAY RISE!!! He made the tour extra special and was a gem of a guide. Highly recommend the tour. Highly recommend James as a guide. Sensational experience.
Overall, I really enjoyed Hobbiton Movie Set since it’s one of my bucket list destinations. That said, it would feel even more immersive if there were actual “villagers” around—selling things or putting on small performances—instead of just a guided tour. It would really bring the place to life. My favorite part was definitely the dinner. The only thing missing, in my opinion, is the staff costumes—they should dress like hobbits to make it feel more authentic. Adding some live music and dancing would also enhance the atmosphere and probably attract even more visitors.
This tour of Hobbiton was amazing the highlight of our trip to the North Island. The most magical experience walking through the movie set. Stunning scenery, attention to detail on the set was amazing with all the Hobbit homes etc. Our tour guide Andrew was fantastic really made the whole experience for us so engaging and friendly on the tour...remembered all the names of guests on the tour amazing. Loved everything about this experience would highly recommend as a must do.
Honestly I never watched the movies so wasn’t too excited, but husband insisted. He was right!!! It was fascinating and magical! The guide, Sebastian, was knowledgeable and fun. This has been the highlight of our trip so far. It is a must do when in NZ! Highly recommend!!!!
