第二次世界大戦中、ポドグジェ地区にはユダヤ人ゲットーがありました。戦争が終わってから 75 年経った今でも、その痕跡が残っています。これらの記念碑は、現在の住民に戦争の恐ろしさを忘れず、将来このような残虐行為を起こさないように努力するよう促す、心を打つシンボルとなっています。ユダヤ人が強制収容所に移送された有名なゲットー英雄広場を訪れ、ゲットーの元々の壁の一部を見学します。この壁は、現在、多くのユダヤ人にとって厳粛な記念碑であり巡礼地となっています。この地区には、歴史ある薬局「アンダー ザ イーグル」など、何千人ものユダヤ人が家々で暮らしたことを今でも物語っています。これらの通りを散策すると、豊かで奥深い歴史を巡る魅惑的な旅が楽しめます。

クラクフのゲットーの最も顕著な名残は、元々のゲットーの壁の 12 メートルの部分です。1983 年に建てられた記念碑には、ヘブライ語とポーランド語で「ここで彼らは生き、苦しみ、そしてドイツの拷問者の手で死んだ。ここから彼らは死の収容所への最後の旅を始めた」と刻まれています。
クラクフのポドグジェ地区にあるゲットー英雄広場は、ユダヤ人が強制収容所に移送される前の 1941 年から 1943 年まで、ユダヤ人の集合場所として機能していました。現在、この広場には、数十脚の鋳鉄製の椅子が点在する感動的な記念碑が飾られています。これらの椅子は、ゲットーの解体後に路上に残されたクラクフのユダヤ人の所有物を象徴しています。

Magdalena was a very knowledgeable guide and ran a very informative tour. We walked at a nice relaxed pace and stopped numerous time on the tour for her to explain the history of the area. Definately recommended.
