中国漁網 (Cheena vala) は、インドの定置式揚網の一種です。漁業のために固定された陸上設備である漁網です。インドでは一般に「中国漁網」として知られていますが、このような網のより正式な名前は、海岸操作のリフトネットです。巨大な機械装置が、直径 20 メートル以上の水平ネットを支えます。それぞれの構造物は高さ少なくとも 10 メートルで、海の上に張られたネットを張ったカンチレバーと、もう一方の端で釣り合いおもりとしてロープに吊るされた大きな石で構成されています。各施設は最大 6 人の漁師からなるチームによって運営されます。このような網は中国南部とインドシナの沿岸全域で使用されていますが、インドでは主にコーチやコーラムなどのインドの都市で見られ、観光名所になっています。この漁法はインドでは珍しく、14 世紀にインドに上陸した中国人の探検家によって導入されたため、ほぼこの地域独自のものです。実際、高知という都市名の解釈の 1 つは「コーチン」です。
フォート コチ ビーチは、南インド、ケーララ州コチ市のフォート コチにあるアラビア海沿いのビーチです。
オランダ人墓地は、フォート・コチの訪問先の一つです。ここは、何世紀も前に祖国を離れ、自らの帝国を広め、拡大するために古代に帝国の住民が住んでいたことで有名です。この墓地は 1724 年に奉献され、現在は南インド教会によって管理されており、この墓地にまつわる興味深い物語がいくつか残されています。
コーチのフォート・コチ（フォート・コーチン）にある聖フランシス教会は、もともと 1503 年に建てられ、インドにあるヨーロッパ最古の教会の 1 つであり、亜大陸におけるヨーロッパの植民地闘争の物言わぬ証人として歴史的に重要な意味を持っています。ポルトガルの探検家バスコ・ダ・ガマは、1524年に3度目のインド訪問中に高知で亡くなった。彼の遺体は当初この教会に埋葬されましたが、14年後に遺体はリスボンに移送されました。
フォート コチのサンタ クルス大聖堂大聖堂は、ケーララ州にある 8 つの大聖堂のうちの 1 つです。ケーララ州の歴史的建造物の 1 つとして数えられるこの教会は、インドで最も素晴らしく印象的な教会の 1 つであり、一年中観光客が訪れます。

パラデシ シナゴーグは、南インドのケーララ州コチにある、イギリス連邦で活動している最古のシナゴーグです。 1568 年に建設されたこの寺院は、マラバル イェフダンまたはイェフダン マピラ族、またはコーチン王国のコーチン ユダヤ人コミュニティの 7 つのシナゴーグのうちの 1 つです。

What a great day with Riva! He drove me around Mattancherry almost the whole day with stops along the way and lunch and was in such a good mood the whole time. It was really fun and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a particularly fun tuk-tuk tour through Mattancherry.

I so enjoyed my tuk-tuk tour of Fort Cochin today. It was just what I needed, not too stressful but a good first day to expose after a very long and exhausting journey. Riya was the driver of his top class Ferrari with special air conditioning :) He picked me up in good time from my hotel, even though it was a fair distance from Fort Kochi and let me know he was waiting outside. We did the usual tourist spots but if I asked I wanted to buy some local spices, for example, he took me to a great place, and he also recommended an Ayurvedic massage to help with my aches from my journey. It was a great day, exploring at my pace, with a kind and friendly driver.
Price/performance we found very fair. We were able to visit some interesting churches and other places in Kochi, such as a laundry. One point could be improved. It concerns the visits to shops associated with the tour, where you almost got pushed to buy something. Here the guide might ask at the beginning whether you want to visit the 3 shops or not.

Smilie Shaheer is the perfect driver, very friendly, just so helpful and a fount of knowledge. His tuk tuk is shiny and spotless and because it runs on gas is quiet too. We already had a tour of Kochi booked but he stopped to chat just outside our hotel and when he heard we’d just arrived he offered to give us a quick ‘run about’ to get our bearings. He’s just such fun and full of great suggestions of places to visit. We took his contact details and he was more than happy to ferry us about when we wanted. We’d definitely recommend him!
