キング ストリートは 300 年以上の歴史があり、チャールストンで 2 番目に歴史のある通りとして知られています。このエリアではミーティング ストリートがキング ストリートを上回っています。
この家はチャールストンで最もよく保存されている南北戦争前の住宅建築群と考えられています。ここはサウスカロライナ州知事ウィリアム・エイキン・ジュニアの邸宅であり、それ以前はサウスカロライナ運河鉄道会社の所有者である彼の父ウィリアム・エイキンの邸宅でした。

チャールストンのダウンタウン、アン通りとジョン通りの間にある古いディーン倉庫に位置し、ウィリアム・エイキン・ハウスと関連鉄道建造物として総称される 5 つの鉄道建造物のうちの 1 つであり、国定歴史建造物地区に指定されています。
サウスカロライナ州チャールストンのラッグボロ地区は彼にちなんで名付けられており、チャールストンの2つの市立公園と7つの通りも彼とその子孫にちなんで名付けられている。
彼の家はもともとチャールストンの二世帯住宅として建てられ、ジュディス通り沿いの南側から家に入ることができました。この家はチャールストンにある南北戦争前の住宅建築物の中で最もよく保存されていると考えられています。

1886 年の地震後に建設された 3 番目の消防署は、新しい第 6 消防署でした。この消防署は、ブロックのすぐ先にあった旧マリオン蒸気消防署の代わりとなりました。

Our guide, Perry was so fun and full of awesome history and details on Charleston and the food scene. The food was delicious at each place. Not his fault but either the company of trip advisor had the wrong place listed for the meeting place. Thankfully Perry called me and waited until we got to the right location.
