It was a truly wonderful experience. And, into retrospective, we were lucky to have a stable volcano. Leo was our tour guide. He was amazing. During the ride to the starting point of the hike, he shared the history of Guatamala. He did this with passion and humour. For the hike we hired porters to carry our backpacks. That made the hike quite doable. We also were quite lucky with the weather. When we arrived at base camp we had a clear blue sky. Unfortunately we skipped the two hikes to the volcano due to sickness. But that did not spoiled our adventure. The sky was also clear during the night, so we could see the lava. Nonetheless, the night was really really cold 🥶 The way down was much quicker than the way up, so we arrived quite fit at the starting point. We had a nice group of around 25 people. Three weeks after our climb, the volcano had a quite massive eruption. That made the trip even more incredible.
We had a great time! It was a though hike, but worth it. The accommodation on top of the mountain was very nice, cosy and pretty comfortable. We had plenty of food. It was nice that there was an opportunity to do additional hikes. We liked Marvin a lot, very friendly and kind. We would’ve liked some extra equipment at base camp, because one of our headlamps broke and the camelbag was leaking. The schedule was sometimes unclear for us. We would recommend CA to our friends!
We had such a great experience hiking Acatenango with CA Travelers! From start to finish, everything was incredibly well organized, which made such a challenging hike feel much more manageable. The guides were amazing, especially Marvin, who really looked out for us throughout the entire experience. We also really appreciated Lorena, she was so motivational and encouraging, especially during the tougher parts of the hike. You could genuinely tell that the guides cared about everyone in the group and wanted to make sure we were safe, comfortable, and able to enjoy the experience. The food was good, and the cabin at base camp was surprisingly warm and comfortable, which we were very grateful for after a long day of hiking! Overall, we felt very well taken care of and would absolutely recommend CA Travelers to anyone considering hiking Acatenango. Seeing Fuego erupt from base camp was an unforgettable experience, and the CA Travelers team made the entire adventure even better. Thank you to Marvin, Lorena, and the whole team! 🌋❤️
It was a great experience. Our guide Adan was the best he makes the experience even better.
The best agency without a doubt, speaking with other people we have met on our trip. 4 friends and I went with them and it was incredible. Everything was super well organized, the food was great and plentiful, and the facilities there were clean, the clothing was super warm, a cabin/house for the 4 of us alone, etc. As far as the guides are concerned, they are very professional. Pablo, Leo, Audi, etc. know well what they are doing and accompany you in everything you need. Do not skimp on looking for anything cheaper, since you will pay for it in cold, food, etc. An experience to repeat.
Once(Twice for me) in a lifetime experience, great company to do it with.i have done it twice and have no regrets of choosing CA Travelers.
Absolutely amazing! Marvin was a very funny and experienced guide and helped us get on and off the mountain with ease, he took initiative and evacuated us off the mountain when Fuego erupted like crazy at midnight, without waiting for the agency’s call. He made sure everyone was going at a good pace so they didn’t suffer from altitude sickness. (I, however, threw up multiple times due not pacing myself). For the price, it’s totally worth it, literally everything is included, headlamp, winter equipment, boots, water, the food provided was also amazing! Sleeping bags kept me warm all night, and I wore a t shirt and shorts inside my cabin. Every guide and porter was very nice, and my overall experience was great! Would totally come back and do this again, thank you Marvin!
Excellent tour! The campsite is located with a fantastic view to Volcan de Fuego. They offer equipment as headlamp, jacket etc. for free. Food was okay. Not something special, but it tasted fine, and there was a good amount of it. However, you have to carry it yourself to the campsite. Many guides in the group to make sure that everyone was safe. Pablo was a great main guide - friendly and spoke English well. The time schedule could have been followed more strictly since the time in the supply center and before the Fuego hike could have been optimized. However, it wasn’t a big problem, and I would definitely recommend going with CA Travelers. If I should do the tour again, I would choose them anytime.
Toni and team were great! The trip was affordable, fun, and each detail was carefully planned. Read the packet before you go and you’ll know almost all of the information. Everyone was helpful and answered any additional questions! Plenty of hotels near their headquarters in Antigua, and about half a block away is a safe/and secure parking spot for 13 USD per day.
Acatenango + Fuego was the toughest and most rewarding hike I’ve done. The climb up Acatenango is relentless — steep switchbacks and thin air the whole way — but reaching base camp and watching Fuego erupt in real time, with lava visible against the night sky, made every step worth it. I hit a wall with leg cramps at base camp before the summit push, which was a rough moment, but the guides were solid about helping me manage it and get back on track. The descent the next day was long and hard on the knees, several hours of steep loose terrain, but the whole experience — the eruptions, the campfire at altitude, the sunrise — was unforgettable. Not a casual hike, but if you’re prepared for a real physical challenge, it’s one of the best views and experiences you’ll find.
