We marked our adoption finalization with the relatives and friends who had survived every form, interview, postponement, and anxious phone call beside us. Instead of a formal party, we wanted somewhere our son could move around and simply be himself. He spent most of the ride pointing at birds, waving to strangers, and asking why the water sparkled. During the toast, he interrupted everyone to announce that he was hungry, which broke the tears into laughter. The day felt joyful, imperfect, and completely true to our family.

The photo session did not feel rushed. We moved between backgrounds, waited for better light and still had time to put the cameras away and enjoy the ride.

One friend becomes seasick on ordinary ferry rides, so she packed medication, ginger candy, wristbands, and a backup plan to leave early. Captain Alberto listened to her concerns before departure, selected a gentler route, and explained where she would feel the least movement. She stayed comfortable, gradually moved toward the front, and eventually forgot to monitor herself. Near the end, she was the person asking whether there was time for another pass by the skyline. That quiet adjustment changed the day for our whole group.

Honeymoon day three: no itinerary, no crowds, no alarm. We floated, talked, and watched the shore drift by until neither of us knew the time.
