We spent 4 days/3 nights on the Yangze Explorer traveling from Chongqing to Yichang in mid-October 2025. We chose this cruise because we were looking for a more intimate luxury experience with excellent service and a limited number of guests. We were very happy with our choice and would recommend this cruise to anyone looking to experience the Yangtze. We booked a Deluxe Suite on the Wu Deck (Deck 4), which included a private balcony with a beautiful view. The rooms are very elegant and were impeccably clean throughout our stay. The dining room was also very spacious, and had a lot of food options to reflect the mix of local and international guests aboard. There was live entertainment at the bar each evening, which was a nice way to end the day. The service was exceptional, both before and during the cruise. I booked directly with the operator, and Robin X. assisted us with all of our logistics before arrival and met us on our departure day in Yichang. He was extremely organized, provided very detailed information to ensure everything went smoothly, and arranged private transfers around our schedule. On board, the staff were wonderful and made a point of taking care of us throughout the cruise. They even surprised me with a cake after noticing that we were celebrating an occasion over our cruise dates, which was completely unexpected and such a memorable touch. The daily excursions were extremely well organized, with different options to choose from each day. The guides were knowledgeable, and when needed, we were provided with an English-speaking guide. One of our favorite experiences was the excursion through the Lesser Three Gorges and the Madu River by boat. We also particularly enjoyed passing through the Three Gorges Project ship lift. There is a lot packed into each day's itinerary, so we did skip a few things so that we could enjoy sitting on our balcony and the views along the river. We were a little concerned about the weather in October, as it is between seasons with some overcast days. However, we had very little rain with moderate temperatures, which was perfect for enjoying all of the excursions. I had also been hesitant about taking a river cruise because of motion sickness, but the river was calm and I had no issues with the movement of the ship. Even while cruising, the ship was remarkably quiet at night. Overall, this was an excellent way to experience the Yangtze River. The combination of the elegant ship, small number of guests (~150 ppl inclusive of crew), exceptional service, well-organized excursions, and beautiful scenery made this a truly memorable 4-day/3-night experience. We highly recommend the Yangze Explorer!
