The overall itinerary was good and sufficient for a first visit to the Amazon. Good (7/10) - the tour guide (Kenrick) was very knowledgeable (probably because he lives in a native community along the river) and had excellent English communization. Unfortunately, on the 1st day he was late by about 45 mins in meeting us. He also could have been more enthusiastic about the tours. In short, awesome knowledge but insufficient enthusiasm. Good (7/10) - the tour organizer was responsive and available to help with issues. But needs to work more closely with their partners to ensure overall great experience for the tour. Bad (3/20) - the lodge was very dated. When we checked into our rooms, there was a strong odor indicating dead air trapped in the rooms for a long time. Probably not a popular lodge and these rooms were empty for a long time. Their storage tank ran out of water on our 3rd morning and the staff was sleeping so can’t address the problem unless we return from our sunrise tour. Food was ok but not enough. They rationed the food so everyone would get just one piece of everything. Frankly we are not big eaters but thought that they didn’t provide enough. The staff was ok. Frankly I don’t know how to benchmark fairly because this is our first time staying inside a rain forest. The only hotel that was also very bad (but still better than this one) is located on Easter Island. Out of the hundreds of hotel where we have stayed, this one is on the bottom. I feel bad to say this but just want to set the right expectations for future visitors. Unacceptable (0/10) - at the return from the Amazon, the car driver who picked us up from the port to our hotel was constantly texting and driving at the same time. He was very reckless in his driver even for someone like me who drives in New York City. At the hotel, he then demanded a tip for his driving. What a worst way to end the trip.

We had an amazing experience with Joshua Amazon Expeditions and truly enjoyed every moment of our trip. A special thank you to Jordana, who was our first point of contact. She was incredibly responsive, helpful, and accommodating throughout the entire process. Our guides, Kennedy and John, were also fantastic. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and made the experience even more enjoyable. Our flight was delayed, and we unfortunately lost about five hours, but despite that, the team adjust everything for us. They made sure we didn’t miss any of the tours we had booked, which we really appreciated. We also loved our stay at Tapiri Lodge. Everything was great, and it was such a memorable part of our trip. Highly recommend this experience!

Joshua organized an amazing experience for us and with Sophie as our guide everything went super smooth, no delays and enough time in each place. We spent 3 days We will come back to try other experiences next year for sure. We did a private tour with just me and my friend, so we had the boat for ourselves and it was perfect. Everything was arranged for, so we didn't have any issues. The food was also delicious and felt pretty local. We enjoyed our stay at Anavilhanas lodge, felt super authentic.

I cannot fault anything from our experience. Everything was organized so well and on time and we were made to feel comfortable and safe at all times. This was so important going into a completely unknown and remote location. Special credit to our amazing guide who made us feel comfortable from the first minute and taught us so much! Also to the chef at the lodge, the best food we had in Brazil! A very special and once in a lifetime experience we will never forget! Thank you Joshua's for looking after us so well!

The lodge has internet, yet for 3 days and 2 nights, I was off line. We had functioning air conditioning. I felt transported into a different time. On the way to the lodge saw the meeting of the waters in the rain, saw pink dolphins, small fresh river dolphins. Saw how locals used to live, saw lots of birds. Then fished for piranhas. Harder than it looks, great sunsets and Sun rises. 3D/2N is the perfect amount of time to get lost in the Jungle.

The lodge family, staff and guides at Tapiri are great, really nice folks. The cabins are fine 4mtr x 4 mtr rooms with bathroom attached, and an air conditioner. Kind of 2 star furnishings, sheets, etc, but it is a jungle setting. If you are new to jungles, this is a fine start to your learning experience. The best experience here is swimming with the pink dolphins - fantastic! Having said that, the Rio Negro in October has probably 1/3 the animals and birds and 1/5th the fish varieties that occur downstream of Manaus on the Amazon, because of the pH of the dark water at around 4.5pH - highly acid. If you want to come to Rio Negro you should probably come at the end of June after the rainy season while the wildlife is still around before the water is retreating and getting more acid. Or, as we did, went to the Amazon area below Manaus after (or instead of) where the wildlife is still abundant all the time. Just my suggestion. Again, some really nice people here, and in the villages, etc... but compared to downstream of Manaus, not the best for wildlife including lack of birds which need fish to feed on.

Me and my friend were literally the only tourists in the area, the lodge is in a small native community with electricity. Very unique experience exploring the forest and river. Bring insect repellent, do not believe the locals when they say there is no malaria in Rio Negro (in fact Rio Negro waters are more likely to carry malaria).

Our stay at Tapiri lodge was exceptional, in all different aspects. My husband and I spent only two days there because of our hectic schedule. The lodge was comfortable and located in a magical part of the Rio Negro, near the Anavilhanas Archipelago, close to other caboclo villages, but very isolated and quiet, with a fantastic sunrise seen by the porch of the lodge (don't miss it!). The food there is all home-cooked and really delicious. The owner and his family are lovely and very hospitable. The experience was wholesome and unique. We had a fantastic guide, Kenedy, who spoke excellent English and was very communicative and knowledgable, who accommodated our schedule & mood and helped us get the most out of the trip. The company JoshuasAmazonExpeditions did a great job putting together a very demanding schedule for us, because of our limited time and unlimited wishes, and all the folks who we worked with (staff, drivers and local support) were great and very professional. Salute to our excellent boat driver Eduardo from the local village who did a fantastic job selecting the sites in the area to go fishing and night sailing. Thank you for the great experience guys!

We visited the Amazon from the US and brought our whole family. Joshua and his team were fantastic. They went above and beyond and even picked us up at the airport to take us to our hotel and dropped us off after. Joshua communicates with you personally the entire time and you always have his cell #. Our guides were outstanding (Ken and Cobra, along with the boat drivers) and spoke fluent English. Very good food, customer service, they didn't nickel and dime or pressure us for anything... Our favorites were visiting a local tribe and some of the people living along the river. Piranha fishing and seeing the wildlife were really cool. There are a lot of terrifying bugs around, but when your lodge is 20 feet from the Amazon river in the middle of the jungle, that's part of the experience. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. We had a great time and would recommend it to everyone.

We had a great time on our trip with Josh's Amazon tours. While only 2 nights we covered a lot of ground with plenty of time for relxing in hammocks. Advice would be to chat with you guide everyday about what you want to do, we quicky found out the itinerary is there as a starting base and can change depending on weather or something else you want to do. We also met others on the trip, our group was small but also at the lodge. Enjoy!
