We did a 1 day jungle trek and the village life tour and both were absolutely brilliant!! For the jungle trek, Sam and Ragil were our guides and they were so friendly, fun, and knowledgeable. They made sure we had the best experience ever: seeing three orangutans, eating delicious food and fruit, and learning so much about the jungle. The jungle taxi tubing back to the hotel was hilarious as well! For the village tour, Sandy was our guide and he was equally as lovely and had so much information to share! We saw rice fields, nearby villages, and learnt how to make tofu and tempeh as well as brown sugar. We loved using a tuk tuk to get around as well. What really stood out about Sumatra Orangutan Trekking was their ethical focus, and how passionate all of the guides are about protecting the jungle and not feeding the orangutans etc. I cannot recommend more highly this company nor Bukit Lawang - trip of a lifetime!

We had a great 1 day trek with Nasir & Justin. They were awesome guides and lovely people. We got picked up at our accomodation and driven by scooter to the headquarters where we left on the Trek. Nasir was very knowledgeable about the jungle and very helpful for answering questions. We saw 8 orangutans which was a life highlight. Our guide did not feed the orangutans however there were other guides feeding them, this seemed like it happens often to keep orangutans in one spot for a while so other trekkers are able to come and see them. It was disappointing to see them being fed, but is one way to keep the jungle rather than palm oil plantations. The guides talk to each other on the phone when they find an orangutan and provide directions so others can find it too. We also did a cooking class with Ana and Risky (unsure on the name) which was really fun. Ana's English was limited which made it a bit tricky but we had a fabulous time learning from her, the food was the best we ate during our time in indonesia.

I booked a shared shuttle service from Medan to Bukit Lawang and went on a day tour with them; everything went smoothly. During the hike, I was accompanied with Mas Sandi and Mas Justin, I had the chance to see snakes and Orangutans, and even spotted a mother Orangutan with her baby, so adorable!!! They were very friendly and kind, Mas Sandi explained to me a lot about Orangutan and the National Park itself, and they always made sure I didn't block the Orangutans' path while still placing me in the best position to see them. Then they prepared fresh fruit as a snack during the hike and found the best spot for lunch. There were two trails down, the easiest and the steepest, and I chose the steep one, and thet were very patient, walking at my pace. Oh, on the way down there was a gibbon, but I was too tired to hike anymore, so I skippit it. Overall, this was an amazing experience and also fun (The Boat ride back to the hotel!!!!). Hope to come back again and spend some nights in the forest!!

We had the best experience with Sumatra Orangutan Trekking. Booking the tour was seem less and organised instantly through WhatsApp, all information is provided and Dedek also sorted our transport from Medan with a private pick up and drop off. The tour itself was fantastic from start to finish, the breakfast and lunch provided are top quality! We were lucky to see orangutans plus many other animals but the part that made it special was the guides we got to share the trek with, Dony and Memed. They made the trek so enjoyable and interesting, with facts about survival, the orangutans, other animals as well as flora and fauna. They were brilliant and I would highly recommend doing a tour with this company! My only regret is not doing a longer trek!

The most wonderful 1 day Trek with our guides Dony & Memed- I just wish we chose to do longer. They truly made the experience 10/10! They were super informative and very passionate about the jungle for the full trek. The food was delicious and there was so much of it! Bring lots of water as the trek can get pretty tiring but the guides are happy to stop when you would like/if you need a break. They arranged to pick us up from Medan and drop us off as well which was so helpful. This company is amazing from start to finish and they communicate with others within the jungle if any Orangutans have been spotted so nobody misses out. The rafting at the end of the day was also really fun!!! This team is the most lovely so please reach out if you’re thinking about doing the trek, it really is worth it 😊

Picked up from the airport and straight into the adventure – it couldn’t be easier! Even before we were even in the jungle, thanks to WhatsApp, we always had a contact person who responded feeling faster than Google. Our guide Nassir was great: funny, relaxed, and as soon as it came to animal welfare and nature, suddenly serious – just as it should be. While other guides (unfortunately real) kicked trees to get orangutans moving, our guide was clear: Nature is respected here. The food? A small feast in the jungle: first fresh fruit, then Nasi Goreng, and just before rafting another round of fruit – like having an invisible jungle chef with you. The rafting itself was the crowning achievement: Water, action, and lots of fun. Conclusion: If you really want to see orangutans without show tricks at the expense of the animals, this is the place for you. Nassir = legend. Nature = respected. Adventure = included.

Really nice and helpful guides, some of the terrain was quite a challenge but they spent the whole day making sure we had help when we needed it. Really good lunch, charmingly presented - it was really striking that every last fragment of uneaten food was carefully taken out of the jungle. The respect for the wildlife and the habitat was apparent. The wildlife speaks for itself of course. A swim at the end and short whitewater raft home was fun. Worth every penny, thoroughly recommend.
