We had an enjoyable day exploring the city of Otaru with our friendly and knowledgeable guide Scott. The tour was a relaxed walking experience through this charming port town with stops at the famous Kitaichi Glass shop, the Otaru Music Box shop, the famous Steam Clock, lunch at a local eatery and happy hour beer at Otaru Brewery. Scott was pleasant, organized, and shared helpful information about the city’s history and shopping advice throughout the day. If you enjoy browsing for unique local souvenirs, this is a fun and easy way to experience Otaru without having to plan your own itinerary. Pro Tip - The meeting place is at Sapporo Station entrance next to the Daimaru Department Store. Plan to arrive at the meeting place at least 30 minutes before designated meeting time. Do not use meeting place address on Trip Advisor. (Uber taxi using that address took us to a different spot that was at least 15 minutes away and we had to run to the station.) We arrived 15 minutes late but luckily Scott was kind enough to wait for us to start the tour. If you get lost, call the TripAdvisor help line - they were very helpful and patient with us 🙂

I was the only guest on the day and was pleasantly surprised that the tour still proceed. Scott was the tour guide and he covered the places of interest while explaining the history of the city. It was a relaxing and enjoyable tour

The Otaru and Local beer brewery tour was a great way to visit and learn about Otaru and try locally brewed beers. Scott is very knowledgeable of the history of Otaru and very familiar with local shops and eateries. He guided me to historic sites and explained their significance to the establishment of the city. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in history and trying the locally brewed beers.
