very interesting, abandoned medieval village in the heart of basilicata. used to be scenery for the passion of christ movie by mel gibson.

Little interest because we had a guide who spoke only Italian. The audio guide explains the site for a few minutes and then waits until the guide has finished in Italian for 15 minutes each time. Very long and uninteresting visit.

This was a once in a lifetime experience for my husband; his family lived in Craco before immigrating to the US. It is a hauntingly beautiful place. When I booked the tour I understood it would not be in English but there would be a downloadable link in English. We were extremely disappointed as we listened to about 6 very brief descriptions of certain landmarks while the Italian group guide gave very long descriptions and connected with the group while the English speakers waited on the sidelines. You need to convey this. Had we known, we wouldn’t have spent nearly $400 for this tour. On the other hand, Francesco, the Tuk Tuk driver was so kind and then, Nino and Nicoletta, our driver and guides to Amaro Lucano made the trip worthwhile. They were lovely, kind, knowledgeable and fun to be with.
We were very impressed by Craco, it was really all very nice and charming, considering it is a ghost town.

It is a ghost town, very beautiful perched on the Lucanian Dolomites. The tour is accompanied by a trained guide who explains everything about the country and why it became an abandoned country. Very characteristic you can breathe the real air of Basilicata, to know that some scenes of the film The Passion by Mel Gibson were filmed here. During the visit you are provided with a helmet and the visit is really worth doing, an evocative country.
