Vita was a nice person but difficult to understand her English at times. Also difficult to hear in a group of 22—a microphone to project her voice would have helped. The tour itself was ok.

The tour was great and our guide Lorenza was wonderful- she spoke excellent English and was knowledgeable, warm and funny. Booked through Tripadvisor and was given the wrong address for the meeting spot and had to call and be sent a new address so it was a rush at the last minute to get there. The tour was great though!

This tour has so many exquisite views that it’s hard to single out the most memorable one: the churches, the valley, the river below… I loved the fossils in the limestone blocks and the cat doors most. But it was also fascinating to see how a whole family and their animals lived in a cave. Our guide Lorenza was approachable and welcomed our questions. She shared facts as well as personal stories with humor and care, always praising those who volunteered information they knew about Matera. She also clearly communicated about the tour - where we’d be and when - and encouraged everyone who had a hard time with all the stairs. She gave us plenty of ideas for what to come back and see or do later. Early in the tour, someone fell and was injured. Lorenza was gentle with the group, which was rattled, and called the tour office to make sure the injured person and their family were taken care of. Highly recommend this tour.

I participated in the Sassi di Matera tour with Passi nei sassi and it was an extraordinary experience. Our guide, Simone, proved to be extremely knowledgeable, passionate and capable of conveying the history and soul of the city with unique engagement. We were a very small group, only three of us: basically it was almost a private tour! This allowed us to enjoy the tour at our own pace, ask questions and appreciate every detail without the confusion of the usual lines of tourists. Even if the price is slightly higher compared to large platforms like GetYourGuide, it is absolutely worth every penny. Choosing local businesses like Passi nei sassi directly really makes a difference and helps support local companies that work with such dedication and quality. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to discover Matera in an authentic way!
