While this is not a guided tour and it is basically riding the passenger ferry, it is a very, very beautiful journey. The boat was very comfortable with plenty of places inside and on deck from which to view and take pictures of the beautiful scenery.
The journey with Norled AS departs from Bergen Port at 08:00, starting from the inner harbor area. Early departure provides calm conditions and clear views of the waterfront. The route first passes the Bontelabo Cruise Pier, then enters the North Sea inlet for approximately 30 minutes. At Alverstraumen, the vessel navigates a narrow channel for about 15 minutes—one of the more interesting segments due to its confined passage. After reaching the main Sognefjord, the sailing becomes smoother and more stable. Scenic views improve notably after 2–3 hours, especially near Vik, where landscapes begin to open up. Approaching Balestrand, the surroundings feature green hills and scattered farmhouses, offering a classic Norwegian countryside view. Entering the Aurlandsfjord, the scenery becomes more dramatic, with narrower waterways and visible waterfalls along the cliffs. Undredal stands out as a highlight along this stretch. Its small-scale setting and fjord-side location are often associated with the visual inspiration for the fictional kingdom of Arendelle. The full journey to Flåm takes approximately 5.5 hours. Discounted fares, including reduced senior pricing, provide good value for a long scenic route.
As others have said this is not a guided tour and we should have read the reviews closer. 5.5 hours each way with 2 hours for lunch and shopping in from. The captain did call out some interesting items and stopped by the waterfall for pictures. Much cheaper if you book yourself
Weather was not ideal when we started the cruise, but it improved as the day went on. It was a great cruise, beautiful scenery. The wind at the front of the boat was extreme, much calmer at the back.
Spectacular landscapes, comfortable environment, punctuality. Useful as a transfer from Bergen to Flam. A bit of perplexity about booking through the Viator website that, after paying the balance and confirming the booking made us struggle until the last minute to get the real tickets. I would recommend the cruise but I would suggest to book it directly on the manager's website rather than through the intermediary
The APP allowed us to book the one way Flam to Bergen but we had to scramble in AM when received email it was over booked! Hope we get our money refunded!
Spent time planning for the trip and was excited to go. The natural area and scenery were amazing. It is worth your time to just visit the natural environment. The disappointment is the town of Flam itself. First, a cruise ship of about 5000 plus parked exactly in front of the entire area. You could not see the water. The food locations were overflowing and the food quality was poor The gift shops had mostly the poor quality , less expensive nonsense that nobody would need or care about and the grandchildren hate It was a depressing day. Go soon to witness the natural beauty but avoid the town. It’s a traditional tourist trap
Viator was simply a ticket broker. This is NOT a tour. It is a fantastic ferry ride and I recommend it. Just buy your tickets directly from the ferry company and save yourself a lot of money.
I paid EUR 270 for this tour and was provided a voucher only … not an actual ferry ticket which means the ferry company denied my entry. I had to buy a separate ticket directly on the ferry. I’m requesting a refund from VIATOR … this is still in progress.
Adventure fun comfortable great beautiful scenery memorable mind blowing high cliffs waterfalls cool
