Visited the museum on 12/08/2025 first time since the renovations. Much impressed with the new layout of the existing hangers. Has a smoother flow which helps in seeing all the attractions. There are small displays which young children can sit in which is great. There is so much content you can spend hours enjoying the museum. The onsite restaurant provides great food for everyone. There are seats located in all the hangers which allows you to rest as needed with wash rooms in all the hangers. This was a great day spent, entry is free.
A Saturday well spent! Great location, lots to see, very geared up towards children, lots of lovely little planes for them to sit in. Would recommend to families. We will return with other family members. Gift shop very well stocked some nice little treats in there. All staff were really friendly.
This is definitely a must-do for any aircraft nerd. It was such a good time. For those looking for a Smithsonian or USAF Museum experience, you might be disappointed -- this is a true non-profit effort and not governmetn supported like these other two museums. That said, the aircraft were amazing, real, touchable and fun. I'd never seen a Lancaster, a Vulcan, or a BAC Lightning -- got to see all these and take pictures. In addition, they have a wonderful opportunity to pay and sit in a Spitfire -- that was my highlight. Ashley was my guide and his knowledge, patience and professionalism reflected the tone of the entire museum. The variety of aircraft was very exciting. A Short Sunderland shades the lunch room and a Lancaster anchors the WW2 exhibit. My only critique is the somewhat haphazard way some of these aircraft are displayed next to each other. They have four of the aircraft that fought in the Battle of Britain displayed directly next to the Queen's Wessex -- I'm not sure I understand the decisions to put some of these aircraft together. Bit that is very choosy. The staff was terrific, very helpful and very informative. I sent my pictures home and now my Spouse wants to go so she can sit in the Spitfire!
OMG FANTASTIC The collection is superb. The layout is brilliant. I’m not even a military or airplane buff but I’d Recommend this museum ( in fact I’m planning to Recommend this museum) to everyone. My wife and I found it to be excellent and our grandkids enjoyed everything about it. We done, kudos to the museum.

The reputation of the museum set the bar quite high, and a view of a huge hangar with the "Royal Air Force Museum" written on it gave me a thrill of excited expectation. I am most happy to say that I was not disappointed. The very chance to get near some wonderful aircrafts was amazing. From very old Bleriot, to the classic Spitfire Mk I, to the huge Acro Vulcan, to the Predator drone, all are interesting and each has its story. Most of them are original machines, with a brief tale written. Plenty of other items (damaged pieces of the aircraft flown by Trafford Leigh-Mallory and Arthur Harris in the first world war) can be found there as well. The store with memorabilia, tactically located on the way from the first hangar to the others, is overshadowed by a huge Sunderland that the visitors capable of climbing up there can get into and listen to a story told by a daughter of certain radio-operator. The admission is free of charge, but it's worth it to donate a few quids to let the museum function. Also, there are certain additional activities that one needs to pay for. I visited the museum twice within a few days and booked the Spitfire experience (a chance to sit in the airplane's cockpit), as well as the First World War and the Battle of Britain tours. To place myself on the seat in the iconic fighter (albeit the late version, Mk XVI) was wonderful itself. Mr James who took care of the experience that day was very kind and knowledgeable. Even though the time the visitors have on their hands to spend with Spitfire is limited, Mr James took his time to answer any questions each of them had, and I didn't see him rushing anyone. Mr Yakov who led the Battle of Britain tour is a true passionate. He allowed me to stay with him a bit longer and said he could talk about the planes all day; I think he did mean it, and even though I didn't want to impose on his kindness and hospitality, it was a very pleasant conversation. Mr Thomas who led the First World War tour was a volunteer, happy to see me even though I was the only person who booked the event, as the other gentlemen he really knew what he was talking about. The information passed during the tours was a bit basic at times, but the gentlemen I had pleasure to talk with were eager to answer questions and go into details, even though my heavy accent might have made me difficult to understand. Also, when with the guide, the tour participants were allowed to get nearer the planes than usually. I would like to thank everyone at the museum for making those two days so exceptional. I would love to come back some other day.
Hi Tomasz, Wow what a review. We are delighted that you enjoyed the tour so much. Best Regards,
The restaurant while you cant complain about the food i got mine and my wifes food and was told 10 mins for a childs pizza 50 mins later after chasing it twice it arrived we had long finished our food no apology offered it seems that staff have no idea of the order which people ordered i could have ordered it fro Dominoes and had it delivered quicker i love the Museum but until they sort the restaurant not anymore.
What a fantastic place. Took my brother who loves all things military history and I am getting more interested in the field. The amount of history on show at the RAF Museum is mind blowing. The Avro Lancaster, the De Haviland Mosquito, the Avro Vulcan and the Sunderland Sea plane were personal highlights. Food was good value and better than usual museum food. I would not hesitate to go back, to walk around and take everything in again!
Each airplane has a short verbatim of the relevant history. Cons: many of their screens and computerized games are out of order.

Last visited when I was a child and it didn’t seem as big as I remembered. Enjoyed the 4d Red Arrows and Typhoon simulator however slightly disappointed with the rest as aircraft seemed to be crammed in.
