Our Giverny tour is a shared small-group service for a maximum of 8 passengers, and the vehicle used for your tour was operating within its normal authorized capacity. Importantly, all of these conditions are clearly stated on our reservation page before booking: the maximum number of passengers, the shared minivan format, the pickup conditions and the areas of Paris where hotel pickup is available. Our hotel pickup service is not advertised as being available from every hotel or every address in Paris. When an accommodation is outside our designated pickup area, guests are assigned an appropriate meeting point. We provide this information before reservation precisely so that every guest can decide freely whether this type of tour corresponds to their expectations and personal requirements before making a booking. We fully understand that at 6'2" (approximately 1.88 m), you may personally require more legroom than another passenger, particularly when sitting in the rear row and during an unusually long journey caused by heavy Paris traffic. However, on a shared tour, a particular seat or additional individual legroom cannot be guaranteed. If travelling in one of our Mercedes minivans does not provide the amount of personal space you require, we would also advise against booking a similar shared minivan tour with another operator, as the seating arrangements and available space in this type of vehicle are generally comparable. For your particular requirements, travelling by train or booking a private vehicle would probably be a more suitable solution. We regret that the shared transportation format did not correspond to your personal expectations. We take any comments concerning driving and passenger safety very seriously, so following your feedback, we reviewed the vehicle’s GPS records. At the beginning of the tour, as you were not comfortable sitting at the rear of the vehicle, the other passengers kindly changed seats with you, and you were then seated directly behind the driver. According to the GPS records, the driver remained within the authorized speed limits throughout the journey. On French motorways, the normal maximum speed is generally between 110 and 130 km/h, depending on the road and conditions. This corresponds to approximately 68–81 mph. The driver also explained to us that you had looked at the vehicle’s speedometer and became concerned when seeing figures such as 110 or 130. We believe there may have been some confusion because French vehicles display speed primarily in kilometres per hour rather than miles per hour. Following your request, the driver reduced his speed to approximately 90 km/h, which is about 56 mph, and continued at this lower speed, including behind coaches and other slower vehicles. We nevertheless regret that the conversation with the driver made you feel uncomfortable. Whatever the circumstances, communication with our guests should always remain courteous and professional. Dear Guest, We regret the confusion surrounding your pickup arrangements. However, several points in your review require clarification. Viator sends automated reminders that may still display the pickup address originally selected when booking, even after a different meeting point has been agreed with our local team. This is why we send two to three direct messages confirming the applicable pickup arrangements. Our hotel pickup area and the requirement to use a meeting point for accommodation outside that area are also stated in the tour description. Our direct confirmation provides the final pickup instructions, although we recognise that conflicting automated reminders can cause confusion. Regarding the timing, the change to your planned pickup time and the subsequent traffic delay were separate matters. Traffic was heavier than usual that Saturday, and the driver reached the meeting point approximately 15 minutes late. However, our vehicle tracking records confirm an arrival in Giverny at 1:50 p.m., with departure at 5:00 p.m. You therefore had three hours and ten minutes on site, exceeding the three hours advertised. The traffic delay did not reduce your scheduled visiting time. Your admission ticket covered both Monet’s house and gardens. However, quick entry into the grounds does not remove the separate queue to enter the house. Saturdays are particularly busy, and waiting times can vary. The guide’s recommendation to begin with the gardens allows guests to benefit from the garden introduction before continuing independently. Sending everyone straight into the house queue would prevent them from receiving that commentary at the same time. Visiting the house first would not necessarily have eliminated the wait either. We regret that you did not see the house, but this was not because it was excluded from your ticket or because we shortened your visit. Regarding refreshments, the end of restaurant lunch service is not the same as the closure of all food and drink options in Giverny. There are cafés and establishments in the village, outside Monet’s estate, offering coffee, snacks and desserts. A restaurant finishing its lunch service at 4:00 p.m. does not mean that no refreshments can be purchased elsewhere in the village. Finally, the price reflects a small-group minivan excursion from Paris with six passengers on your departure together with the driver-guide’s services, the applicable pickup arrangements, admission to both the house and gardens, and the advertised time on site. A meaningful comparison with other excursions must consider the group size, transport arrangements, inclusions and visiting time, rather than price alone.
