Took the Oak Alley and the Whitney Plantation Tours with Shaniyra on Sunday June 21. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our day. Miss Shaniyra is very knowledgeable, personable, and professional. Both tours were great, being African American, I enjoyed the Whitney tour more. It tells this horrible history from the slave's perspective. If you can only do one tour, I recommend the Whitney.
Regina was a great driver and tour guide. It was a very meaningful and powerful days to two plantations.
I was very interested to visit the Whitney Plantation as it is entirely dedicated to the history of enslaved people in Louisiana, unlike other plantations in the area. Unfortunately, Cajun Encounters recently combined the tour with Oak Alley, which is pretty and fine, but I find that it takes too much time away from what can be spent at Whitney. I was barely able to finish the self-guided tour, let alone look at the exhibition indoors. If you would like to take a look at the exhibits, this tour is fine, but there is not enough time to read testimonies etc. in depth and to take everything in. For that, renting a car and going yourself should be the way to go if you can. Maybe Cajun Encounters should consider reinstating a Whitney-only tour with 3 hours at least to be spent there.
Did the plantation tour of Oak Alley and Whitney, took the bus out of New Orleans. Regina was our driver and she was great, she made sure we saw a few specifics things that was part of the history of the plantations. Great experience and worth going too!

It was a heartbreaking but amazing experience. Everyone needs to visit a plantation tour at least once in their lives.
Visiting the Whitney Plantation was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The self-guided tour was powerful, informative, and thoughtfully done, with a strong focus on the real stories of the enslaved people who lived there. The memorials and exhibits really stayed with us, and we even spotted an alligator on the property, which felt like a true Louisiana experience. Definitely worth visiting if you want a meaningful look at history.
Great experience all around. Our driver, Ricky, was exceptional. He drives for a living so the ride was incredibly smooth, he was friendly, funny, and had such a deep knowledge NOLA’s history, food and culture. Cannot praise him enough!
