Such a great tour with the lovely Chiyoe. A nice way to learn more about the Japanese food culture and to be able to ask all the different questions we have after a few days in this country. We were all very full and happy after a few hours walk. Definitely recommend!!!! Thanks Chi!
Our guide, Ayako, was delightful and most informative -not only about food, but about the history of Kyoto. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of various food epicentres and of some other sites that we would never have known about if not shown by Ayako. The food that we sampled was delicious too! We highly recommend this tour.
We had such a fun time walking around Kyoto… from a temple, to an upscale grocery store, Bel Amer chocolate shop, to some delicious food shops and Nishiki Market at the end. Ayako is an attentive and knowledgeable tour guide. We enjoyed learning about local foods, and sampling things along the tour. Highly recommend this tour with Ayako to anyone.
Walking around Kyoto, getting to know good places to eat, experiencing food… is just one of the best ways to get to know a place, people and culture. Nishiki market, basement of Daimaru all offer a variety of food unimaginable!
We loved our food tour with Hiro! The tour included nearby grocery store, dashi tasting, bao, and traditional Japanese breakfast in addition to the Nishiki Market portion. We learned a lot from Hiro and loved everything that we tasted. Would recommend!
We had a wonderful tour around Kyoto with Rika! She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and showed us so many amazing local spots. We started with breakfast after visiting a temple, then explored charming streets filled with small cafes and a chocolate shop. At Nishiki Market we tried so many delicious foods including donuts, croquettes, gyoza, sushi, sake and more. Rika also took us to a shopping street with anime stores and we got to shop! Rika made the experience so enjoyable and personal. We absolutely loved the tour and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto for the first time!
We were shown a lot of great food choices that were local favorites and were very pleased to try them. We can now go back and know what to try on our own. The guide was very knowledgeable (Rika) and helpful. I highly suggest this tour if you are interested in learning about the local food.
We did the tour with Rika over the Nishi market and it was highly recommended. Rika was very attentive and friendly, told us a lot about Kyoto, gave us more tips. The two teenagers I was traveling with were also thrilled. We tried a lot of different things at the market, were still at the Shrine and then Rika took us to a store we had wanted. Thank you for the great morning.
We undertook a walking tour of the market where we bought ingredients for a Donburi cooking class. The market has been influenced by the number of tourists visiting and that is reflected in what it offers as well as prices. The cooking class was good albeit a little chaotic in terms of instructions. We did not really do much other than dip some prepared cut vegetables in an already prepared batter and then fry them. We ate them with some pre-prepared rice which had some seasoning liquid spooned over it. So really not much cooking at all. It was therefore 1) touristy and not quaint or special and 2) a let down. Based on other reviews would recommend travellers try other things they offer.
We went on the Donburi Cooking Class + Nishiki Market Food Tour today. Our guide and chef, Chie, took us to several unique, historic shops in the market before returning to the cooking studio where she taught us how to prepare Shrimp Tempura and Chicken + Egg Donburi. Chie has a lovely personality and infectious enthusiasm for her craft...we had a wonderful time! Highly recommended!
