The opening act with fire-breathing and those insane mask changes (seriously, HOW do they do it?!) felt like a Marvel movie come to life. Imagine commedia dell'arte on Sichuan peppercorns. The exaggerated makeup reminded me of Venetian carnival, but the stories were darker – ghosts, revenge, tragic love. The water sleeve dance (those loooong white sleeves) was hypnotic, but the "face-changing" stole the show. My friend joked they must use magnets... until a performer changed masks THREE TIMES while walking past our front row seat. Zero. Clue. How. My only gripe? The wooden benches murdered my back after 90 minutes. Still – unforgettable. Pro tip: Google the legends beforehand! All the performers are wonderful: singers, acrobats, shadow puppets. It is all very engaging and it was a pleasant way to spend the evening.
