Energetic and educational!
We had a really great time at the show! We went to the 7 PM show. Our guide was super informative before the show started to give us some background to the history of this type of theater. The performance was extremely interactive and energetic. The theater was packed with locals and since the show changes daily, there are many repeat visitors. Seating is a little tight. But there is not a bad seat in the house!

An Experience Like No Other
Our “on stage” experience at the Kiryuza Koikawa Gekidan Theater was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. Wearing Kabuki kimonos—and Anita’s special Kabuki make-up—made the experience unforgettable. Performing under the bright lights while learning to use the fan and Japanese sword was truly unique. The theater staff were incredibly supportive, cheering us on as we performed. Our interpreter, Janine, was excellent in assisting Zacho, the Kabuki Master, as he applied Anita’s make-up and taught us the fan and sword. We highly recommend this cultural experience and will treasure it for many years.

Dear David, Thank you very much for your review. We are very happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed the show, and we hope you will return to our theatre if you are ever in Tokyo! P.S. Our theatre is the Asakusa Mokubakan; Kiryuza Koikawa Gekidan was the troupe performing in June. For August, Gekidan Nishiki will be the incoming troupe.

Taishu Engeki
It was an amazing experience - getting to know a very colourful piece of Japanese culture. We book through GeYourGuide and our guide Michiko was so attentive and gave us an introduction and lots of explanations about what was happening on the stage. Thank you!
