Hidden gem - one of the best walking tours I’ve ever done
If you’re looking to experience a quieter, more authentic side of Tokyo away from the crowds of Shibuya and Shinjuku, this tour is absolutely worth it.
My guide, Alex, was outstanding. His passion for Japan and its culture was obvious from the moment we met. As someone with both Japanese and Australian roots, he offered a unique perspective, blending historical knowledge with personal stories and practical local insights. He was engaging, funny, patient, and made me feel welcome.
The tour was perfectly paced and took us through places I would never have discovered on my own: peaceful temples, Yanaka Cemetery, beautifully preserved historic streets, Ueno Sakuragi Atari, Enju-ji Temple (where people pray for strong legs and feet), the stunning torii gates of Nezu Shrine, and finally the charming shops of Yanaka Ginza. Along the way, Alex explained Japanese customs, religious traditions, architecture, and everyday life in a way that was both informative and easy to understand.
What really stood out was that this wasn’t just a history lesson: it felt like exploring the neighborhood with a knowledgeable local friend. Alex also pointed out great food stops, unique souvenir shops, and even took fantastic photos throughout the walk.
This has been my favorite tour of japan so far. If you enjoy history, culture, photography, hidden neighborhoods, or simply want to see a side of Tokyo that many tourists miss, I can’t recommend this tour highly enough.
Thank you, Alex, for an unforgettable morning in Old Tokyo!

Thank you for such an incredibly thoughtful review, Sharjeel!
I had a brilliant morning exploring Yanaka and Nezu with you. This is exactly the side of Tokyo I love sharing with people, so your words mean a lot. If you’re ever back in Japan, let’s get out and explore another neighbourhood together!
Cheers, Alex

I had such a good morning with you and thoroughly enjoyed our conversations while walking through the neighbourhood. Hopefully that wasn’t your last trip to Japan. There’s plenty more of Tokyo I’d love to show you next time!

Amazing walking tour with Alex
We had a fantastic time on Alex's walking tour of Yanaka and Nezu Shrine. Alex is an enthusiastic, energetic, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly guide who made the tour both interesting and fascinating.
Although we have visited Asakusa many times, this was our first time exploring Yanaka. With Alex's explanations of the area's history and culture, we saw so much more than we would have on our own. Instead of simply looking around, we gained a much deeper understanding and appreciation of Yanaka area.
Alex also introduced us to some wonderful cafés and restaurants hidden away in the back streets—places we would never have discovered by ourselves.
We highly recommend Alex's tour to anyone visiting Tokyo. It offers a unique perspective on the city, and we are already looking forward to joining another of his tours on our next trip to Japan.

Cherry blossoms and expert guiding in beautiful Yanaka
My son visited Tokyo in December and recommended Alex and Welcome to Japan. I highly recommend the Yanaka tour my partner and I joined alex walking through Yanaka and it was beautiful given the blooming cherry blossoms. Alex was a fantastic tour guide and wish him all the best with his business. See you next time Alex

Thanks so much, Greg!
It was a pleasure meeting you and your partner, especially after your son had already joined me and recommended the tour. You also picked a pretty special time to see Yanaka with the cherry blossoms out. Thanks for supporting the business, and I’ll definitely look forward to seeing you again next time you’re in Tokyo!
Cheers, Alex

A trip to deep Tokyo
I went on the Yanaka tour and it was an experience that really made me feel good. There was something nostalgic about the cityscape in Tokyo, and we were able to learn a lot of places and stories that we would not have noticed on our own.
The guides were also very friendly and easy to talk to and relaxed throughout. If you want to know more about Tokyo, I highly recommend this tour. If I have another chance, I would love to participate.

Off the beaten track Tokyo walking tour
Went on the Yanaka and Nezu walking tour with my family (wife and young daughter). An amazing cultural experience. Alex was wonderful his passion and knowledge for Japanese culture and food was great. This tour was a hidden gem showing a different side of Tokyo. To top it off it was great value for money. Will definitely comeback when revisiting Japan to explore other areas.
