As someone who was curious about Sumo I chose this experience because it seemed way more engaging then watching a match for my family. It was a blast, my wife and 7 year old participated with me and we had such a unique experience. This class is taught by two of Asahifuji Seiya’s (one of the 75 yokozunas in Japan) former students. Kirby who was in the top 200’s and the other Terutsuyoshi Shōki who was a top 5 sumo wrestler during his time. They lead the class and we practiced like sumo wrestlers, then got to face off against them. It was so much fun. Afterwards we were able to eat some delicious food with them, watch videos of the teacher and former Yokozuna Asahifuji Seiya, and just ask them anything. It was truly a rare experience to break bread with them and learn so much about the sport. I strongly recommend this experience for fans of sumo and people who are curious and want an interactive experience.
Food was Soo good, the teachers are amazing!!!! And very accommodating, also learned a bunch about the sport of sumo wrestling.
This was an amazing experience. The Sumo wrestlers were so kind and patient. truly, once in a lifetime experience.
I very highly recommend this activity! The young adults with our group "stepped into the ring" and it really got their competitive juices flowing! Great photo opportunity too!!! We all learned a lot and have a deeper appreciation for the sport and art of Sumo, as well as the total dedication of the wrestlers. The meal at the dojo and the conversation with our hosts was very pleasant. This felt REAL, not touristy. It was the FAVORITE thing we did while in Japan.
Fantastic hands on, literally, experience. Thoughtful warm up and training before a ‘contest’. Jordan the perfect host. Meal afterwards delicious. Place is easy to find if you use the street address.
This is a true experience and not simply a show. We got the dress up, get a taste of what training entails and then “fight” a sumo wrestler. It was so fun and the meal following was delicious! We learned a lot and made a lasting memory. Thanks to the entire team for such a wonderful experience!
Go directly to the dojo. The Google maps address is wrong. Just put in the name of the dojo or use this address: https://maps.app.goo.gl/MLPZEJx85iqKKX4ZA. I had a great time. The staff is really nice, talkative and supportive. You do a training session and a fight by yourself but all in good fun while the staff is taking good pictures and videos. A retired master is also attending and giving tips. After the session you have a tasty meal and can ask questions. It was just so welcoming, exciting in a relaxed atmosphere.
What a highlight of our trip! The staff was very accommodating and informative. They went above and beyond to make our experience top notch. We trained as sumos and then had a round against an actual sumo wrestler!! Our group ranged from 12 years to 55 and we all throughly enjoyed it. The food was delicious and gave us time to chat and ask questions about Sumo life. Highly recommend. Search the facility by name on Google Maps. It took us directly to the home. It is in a residential neighborhood.
This was truly the highlight of our trip — something we’ll remember for a long time. We came as a family of four and didn’t expect it to be as special as it was. From the moment we arrived, we felt so welcomed. Everyone was kind, patient, and genuinely happy to share their world with us. We weren’t just watching — we were part of it. We learned real sumo exercises, stepped into the ring, and trained alongside retired sumo wrestlers. Watching our 4 and 5 year old participate and be included meant everything to us. It was more than just fun — it was something we got to experience together as a family. Afterward, we sat down and shared a meal with them — the same kind of food sumo wrestlers eat. Sitting together, learning, laughing, and just being in that moment made it feel so real and meaningful. You don’t just learn about sumo here — you feel it. The discipline, the culture, the respect. This wasn’t just an activity, it was an experience we’ll carry with us. I highly recommend this, especially for families.
Try to get there early; taxis get lost trying to find the location. The Sumo wrestlers are so kind and funny, and they have a wealth of knowledge. Come prepared to ask questions and learn a lot. The food is absolutely delicious! It felt like we were dining with friends. We will definitely return with our sons--thank you so much for a wonderful experience!
