We spent a day exploring the traditional markets of Dubai, and it was honestly one of the highlights of the trip. From the moment we stepped into the narrow lanes of the souks, everything felt alive — the colours, the sounds, the smells of spices and incense drifting through the air. Our guide was incredible. He didn’t just walk us through the markets; he brought the history and culture to life, explaining the stories behind the spice trade, the significance of gold in Emirati culture, and how bargaining works (which made shopping way more fun). He also knew exactly where to stop for the best saffron, perfumes, textiles, and souvenirs without feeling pressured. Crossing the creek on a traditional abra boat was a special touch — simple, authentic, and a beautiful contrast to Dubai’s modern skyline. What I loved most was how immersive the experience felt. It wasn’t rushed or touristy; it felt like stepping into the heart of old Dubai. If you want to experience the real culture beyond the skyscrapers and malls, this tour is an absolute must. Highly recommend — I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Our guide, Monsoor, met us as planned for a nice historical walk through old town. He integrated numerous local food stops into our tour, using his connections at many establishments. Same was true across Dubai Creek at the souks. His connections put us at ease when haggling for tea, oils, and spices. At the end, he even helped us find the most efficient taxi ride back to our hotel. Fun day!
