Peak into Japanese craftsmanship that few tourist get to see
This was our first time trying a organized food tour and Osaka felt like the perfect place to do so. In what is considered to be the "kitchen" of Japan, it was really nice to see past the lights and noise of the well known tourist zones and really dive into the heart of what makes the food culture of Osaka so special.
We had a wonderful time with Yoko. She was truly a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Osaka and frankly all of Japan. She made the tour fun and engaging while dropping facts here and there to have us leaving full both physically and intellectually.
Five and a half hours absolutely flew by and we left with a deeper appreciation of Osaka and the Shokunin Spirit.

Awesome tour!
A friend and I had the lovely opportunity to do this tour in Osaka and absolutely loved it. Miyo was a wonderful guide and we learned so much about Japan and its rich history and culture, while trying out some amazing food. The non food stops along the tour was also great and it really brought a whole new light to Osaka as a tourist l. Definitely would recommend for anyone visit!

Best food tour
Our private tour with Miyo was absolutely fantastic! It was the perfect combination of food, history, culture, and getting to meet local people. Miyo gave us a wonderful introduction to the history and geography of Japan, then took us to meet artisans who still handcraft traditional lanterns and soba noodles.
We tasted so many delicious foods along the way, including takoyaki, freshly made soba noodles, traditional Osaka okonomiyaki, and some very good croquettes. She also took us to a beautiful florist, a shop specializing in Osaka sake glasses, and a very trendy café.
What made the experience so special was getting beyond the typical tourist sights and seeing how these traditions are still part of everyday life. Miyo was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in getting to know us and learning about our culture as well.
This was truly the ideal tour—it combined food, history, culture, and wonderful personal connections. It was one of the highlights of our trip, and we absolutely loved it!

Best Osaka food and culture tour
We have been on many food and cultural tours all over the world and this tour is one of the best. It was a great balance of culture and food. Our guide, Miyo was great - her English was perfect and she was a native Osakan which is a hard combo to come by. She gave us a great overview of history and culture of Osaka then took on a well thought out well balanced tour. She also took the time to learn about us and shared her great stories as well which made the tour even more enjoyable. We were well fed well taken care and left very happy.

Great time in Osaka
A friend and I enjoyed an enlightening guided tour through Osaka with Miyo from Culinary Backstreets. Highly recommended! Osaka has so much happening at once that a local guide like Miyo helped put everything in context. Great discussion on Japan's history and Osaka's role. Food was excellent (skip breakfast before the tour) - we ate at a busy restaurant, an intimate noodle cafe, and met with some local artisans. Such a fun time - thank you!

Super-friendly, very local tour visiting incredible artisans (with snacking!)
With Miyo as guide, we went off the tourist track to visit local Osaka craftspeople and try food we would never have found without her. She translated perfectly so that we could interact with everyone fluently as we looked at beautiful crafts and tried new things. It was great fun even in the middle of a typhoon! Miyo sent us lovely pictures as well. Highly recommend for anyone interested in the shokunin spirit!

Superb hidden-gem tour of Osaka!
An amazing experience! Our guide Miyo was absolutely lovely, as well as super knowledgeable. It was our first time visiting Osaka, and the tour introduced us to many fascinating crafts and delicious local foods that we would never have found on our own, including a traditional paper lantern maker, a soba noodle master, and an ikebana workshop, among many others. It was an honour to meet master craftspeople and learn about their art. Miyo was a fantastic guide/interpreter and wonderful company. When the tour was over, she also recommended some great museums and shops to visit based on our interests, which we loved. We are hoping Miyo will visit us in London! 10/10, I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Osaka!
