Fantastic 90 minute small group tour of the abandoned hospital on Ellis Island. Jessie made the history of this place come alive. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in the history and wanting to have real insight into the first steps taken on the Americans dream.
Loved our guide Jessie. Very informative!
The Tour was fantastic. Irwin was outstanding his knowledge and personality made the tour. He even put up with the two of us Brits asking obscure questions. There was only 5 of us on the tour. A lovely couple from Orlando and also a lovely young lady from Washington. Thank you all for making this our favourite tour of our stay in New York. Paul UK
Ben was a great guide. So Interesting!
Great tour. Denise was an amazing tour guide.
Denise was an awesome tour guide. The whole tour was fascinating and incredibly informative and interesting. A must do!
This was a very cool experience, especially for someone into urban exploration. I would only recommend the tour for people with average and above average mobility, and I definitely would not recommend for young children who want to touch everything. Because you are going into an abandoned building complex, there is rusty metal and broken glass. I would also not recommend on a really hot or cold day, as portions of the building are open to the elements, and obviously abandoned buildings don’t have modern HVAC. This tour is a great way to escape the crowds. You even get to set foot in another state, as the island sits on the NY, NJ border. Our guide was a really fun person.
Denise was FANTASTIC!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour and if you can book with Denise that's a plus.
very interesting experience with a tour guide who was able to answer every question, expected an amazing experience but got even more than i bargained for!
We purchased the Ellis Island Hard Hat Tour and had a truly unforgettable experience. In 1906, my grandfather boarded a steamship in Palermo, Sicily, at just 13 years old and completely alone. He entered America through Ellis Island and went on to build a wonderful life for himself. My lady's family came to this country from England in 1963 on the Queen Mary (QE2) Cunard line. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island were the first landmarks to greet them. Walking the halls and entering the rooms where our families once stood and the sites they first saw was both emotional and humbling. Our tour guide, Melissa, was exceptional. Her knowledge of Ellis Island's history was extensive, her storytelling engaging, and her enthusiasm contagious. She brought to life the experiences of the millions of immigrants who passed through this remarkable monument to America's history. The Hard Hat Tour provides access to the hospital and administrative buildings that are closed to the general public. Much of the complex remains in its original state. While some areas show the effects of time, others have been carefully preserved to prevent further deterioration. Seeing these spaces firsthand offers a powerful glimpse into the hopes, fears, and dreams of the immigrants who sought a better future in America. The experience also serves as a testament to the compassion, optimism, and opportunity that characterized our nation's immigrant heritage. Words cannot fully capture the impact of standing in these historic buildings and connecting so personally with our shared past. We highly recommend the Ellis Island Hard Hat Tour to anyone interested in American history, immigration, or family heritage. Beyond that the Hard Hat Tour, and Melissa, brought to life the early American spirit of triumph and hope for all. It is an experience that will stay with us for a lifetime.
