Our evening of stargazing with Donna and Scott was among the best experiences of our three weeks in Hawaii. Good weather and dark sky conditions at the viewing site enabled us to see the Milky Way clearly overhead. After introducing us to the main visible constellations, Donna used her wonderful easy viewing telescope to show us individual stars, binary stars, star clusters, and other celestial phenomena, including the light from a galaxy beyond our own. Her educational commentary included the ancient Polynesian voyagers and their skill at using the night sky to guide them among the islands of the Pacific Ocean. Anyone with an interest in science who has an opportunity to visit Maui should not miss an evening of stargazing with Donna and her great telescope.
