This was an amazing experience and cannot recommend more. Run don’t walk to this. Dominic was so nice and you can tell he loves this!

We had 2 super great days with Dominic. He explained a lot of exciting things to us about the culture and the mentality. We especially liked the Aikido trial lesson where we were welcomed very warmly and were allowed to dive into everyday Japanese life. The most magical moment was the tea ceremony in a private Zen temple in a fantastic garden. We can recommend Ikootours to anyone who wants an individual tour and would love to come back!

An unforgettable experience at a private Zen temple right in the heart of Kyoto. We were the only guests in the entire temple, which made the whole experience feel incredibly peaceful and special. Our guide Dominic was fantastic. He explained so much about religion in Japan and how it is actually lived and reflected in everyday culture. His knowledge is incredible , not only about religion, but also Japanese history, architecture, society and culture in general. What we especially liked was the way he explained everything: very naturally, easy to understand and always connecting the different topics in a way that made sense. The absolute highlight was the second part of our visit, when we took part in a traditional tea ceremony hosted by a lovely Japanese lady from the temple. It was such a beautiful and authentic experience. A real hidden gem in otherwise busy Kyoto and definitely one of the highlights of our trip. We can highly recommend it!

Dom was an amazing guide, in between his knowledge on Japanese, Shinto and Buddhist culture, the beautiful temple and the respect for tradition displayed, it was truly and inspiring experience. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in having a meaningful and rich authentic experience, a bit further away from most commercial experiences. Also, book on a rainy day if you can :)
