現在の遺跡は 13 世紀から 16 世紀にかけてのものですが、中世初期の要塞の跡地に建てられました。13 世紀に築かれたアーカートは、14 世紀のスコットランド独立戦争で役割を果たしました。その後、王城として保持され、マクドナルド一族によって何度も襲撃されました。1509 年に城は一族の許可を得て使用されましたが、マクドナルド一族との争いは続きました。その後も何度か襲撃がありましたが、城は強化されましたが、17 世紀半ばまでにはほとんど放棄されました。アーカートは 1692 年にジャコバイト軍による使用を防ぐために部分的に破壊され、その後荒廃しました。ネス湖を見下ろす岬に位置するこの城は、面積の広さでスコットランド最大の城の 1 つです。
クラヴァ ケルンは青銅器時代の円形室墓のケルンの一種で、バルヌアラン オブ クラヴァにある 3 つのケルンのグループにちなんで名付けられました。このケルンは 2 つのサブタイプに分類されます。1 つは、出入り口から短い通路でつながっている単一の埋葬室があり、石のケルンで覆われている持ち出し通路墓で、出入り口は真冬の日没に向かって南西に向いています。もう 1 つのサブタイプでは、環状のリング ケルンが屋根のない領域を囲み、外部から正式なアクセス手段はありません。クラヴァ ケルンは、小説およびテレビ シリーズのアウトランダーに登場する架空のクレイグ ナ ダンの立石のインスピレーションとなっています。主人公のクレアを過去に連れ戻す有名な「割れた石」は、ここクラヴァ ケルンにあります。
カロデンの戦いは、1746 年 4 月 16 日にインヴァネス郊外で起こりました。チャールズ エドワード スチュアート率いるジャコバイト軍は、カンバーランド公爵率いる英国政府軍に決定的な敗北を喫し、1745 年のジャコバイト蜂起は終結しました。カロデンは英国領土における最後の大戦闘の地であり、カロデンの荒れた荒野は、ここで戦い、命を落とした 1,500 人のジャコバイト軍と 50 人の政府軍兵士の安息の地です。今日では、戦線に沿って歩き、戦場の中央にある記念碑の横にある兵士の墓を見ることができます。
コーダー城はコーダー教区にある城です。15 世紀の塔屋を囲むように建てられ、後世に大幅な増築が行われました。もともとはカルダー家の所有でしたが、16 世紀にキャンベル家の手に渡り、現在もキャンベル家の所有であり、現在はコーダー伯爵夫人が住んでいます。 この城の最も古い記録は 1454 年で、この年にコーダーの第 6 代領主ウィリアム カルダーに要塞化の許可が与えられました。ただし、15 世紀の塔屋や天守閣の一部は、それ以前のものである可能性があります。建築史家は、城の最も古い部分の石造りのスタイルをおよそ 1380 年としています。 美しい庭園とともに、観光客が必ず訪れる人気のスポットです。
ハイランド鉄道の主任技師、マードック・パターソンが設計したこの橋は、1893年から1898年にかけて建設され、現在も使用されています。コンクリート基礎の湾曲した石造りの構造は、長さ1800フィートです。スコットランド最長の石造鉄道高架橋です。合計29のアーチがあります。川にかかる中央の広いアーチが1つあり、両側に14のアーチがあります。カロデン・ムーアのリーナック採石場の地元の赤砂岩を使用して建設されました。特別な建築的関心のある場所です。
ドラムナドロヒトはネス湖畔の村で、ネス湖の怪物が住む場所として有名です。ドラムナドロヒトには、スコットランドの氏族の品物やその他スコットランドの名産品を楽しめる珍しい店がたくさんあります。また、スコットランド最小の蒸留所であるグレート グレン ジン蒸留所も訪れます。ここでは、ネス湖の水から作られた世界的に受賞歴のあるジンの無料試飲が提供され、本物のネッシーの味を味わうことができます。
グレンオード蒸留所は 1838 年に設立され、現在は大手ブランドであるディアジオが所有しています。グレンオードはブラックアイルに残る最後の蒸留所で、今でも敷地内で大麦を麦芽にしている数少ない蒸留所の 1 つです。600 万ポンドかけて新たに改装された内部では、チーズボードや幅広い種類の試飲をお楽しみいただけます。一部のウイスキーは、世界の特定の地域またはこの蒸留所でしか試飲できません。 ウイスキーが苦手なお客様には、他の飲み物もご用意しています。

On this tour, we got to see everything we hoped to see and so much more. At each planned stop, Tony gave us detailed information that allowed us to understand and explore the best aspects of Cawdor Castle, Inverness, Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness. All throughout the tour, Tony stopped to give us a chance to view the countryside and visit with the farm animals. We stopped at a bakery for lunch and enjoyed a true flavor of Scotland. Tony saved the best stop for last as we went to a lookout point and enjoyed some treats he had brought for us. This was the best tour of our trip. We highly recommend having Tony show you the best of the Scottish Highlands around Inverness.

Had a great day touring around Loch Ness with our guide, we also visited Culloden Battlefield which our guide walked round telling us the history which was invaluable as the battlefield doesn't tell you much. Highly recommend and would book again.

Tony is great! He contacted me ahead of time to let me know about the whole cruise port change of location and made it so easy for us to find him. He worked on timing things so we could see the most things with the least amount of crowding. He took us on back streets so we could see some Clydesdales. ( My friend is a horse whisperer) He even shared some special treats with us at Loch Ness. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend Tony for your private excursion.

We had a lot of fun with our guide (despite a few off color jokes he told) - he showed us the great Loch Ness spots, took us to a great gin distillery, Cawdor Castle and more.
