Went with the husband and two kids. Bus picked us up from Hilton, and it was about a 5-10 min ride to the port. We were the first in line waiting for the ship just before 9am. There was plenty of room above and below deck, with air conditioning. I’m a scardy cat when it comes to being in open water, but the trip was very smooth and comfortable. It was about 25-30 mins but it honestly felt like 20 mins. I also don’t like getting off ships and going in those smaller ones to get to shore, but the ship to malamala drops you off at the jetty thing. So it’s an easy on and easy off the ship. The island is beautiful. Gorgeous sand and pretty water. However, there are heaps of rocks and shells on the beach, so it wasn’t great to wade through the water. Still, there were plenty of people in the water and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. We hired two cabanas because there were 2 adults and 2 kids and when we were booking, the website claimed only two per cabana. However, you could easily fit a family of five or six under the same cabana. But I think those cabanas are more beneficial for couples or adults. If I were to go again, I would definitely book pool side because my kids spent most of the time at the pools, and the cabanas were waisted on us. Our personal butler, was a beautiful young woman who was very attentive and lovely. But like all Fijian people, you don’t come across any that aren’t kind and super sweet. I didn’t take full advantage of the beach, nor did I walk around the entire thing, which I now regret. The food at the restaurant was tasty (the best we had in Fiji). We booked a full day, but were so over it that we caught the 4pm ship instead of the one at 5. Though I think that was just us having spent too much time out in the sun the previous days that we were already super drained before we even got to Malamala. Even so, if I went back, I would only do half the day. And I would definately visit the island again.

Absolute must do in Fiji. So beautiful. Had a beachside Cabana which I highly recommend. Also used Adults only pool which is equally beautiful.

Good overall experience, really fun place. Food can be quite slow to come out so I’d order early to give you more time

If you’re coming to Fiji and staying at Denarau you simply have to take a trip to Malamala island and beach club. You need to experience the tropical island, the crystal turquoise water and the island life that you miss out on with staying at Denarau. It’s an easy 25 min ferry ride to the island and it’s absolutely worth paying for a poolside day bed. Each one comfortably fits 2 people. We were a family of 4 and had two side by side around the infinity pool, you get your own server who is ready to get your cocktails and ice cream flowing. Day beds are already selected for you with a reserved sign for when you arrive so no need to rush when you arrive. You check in & are given a card as your ‘tab’ and you show this to staff for food & beverages and extras like massages. If you don’t want to book a bed there are plenty of loungers on the beach but be fast because lots of people rush off the boat to claim them. But there are lots of spots around the beach club you can hang out at if you choose. My husband & I took turns to have beachside massages which were incredible and cheaper than the hotel spas, again head there as soon as you arrive to book in. It was low tide when we arrived so we waited for the tide to come in around 11am to go snorkelling, kayaking was open from 1pm when the tide was high. The snorkelling was amazing, you go off the jetty and head left if you’re looking at the island, look for the little white buoys as the reef and fish are great there. The snorkelling gear was fine for us and the kayaks were perfect. They have volleyball, bocces, darts and other things to do, we actually ran out of time and would love to return. Definitely pick your day with the weather, we went and it was blue skies and ocean, on an overcast day I don’t think visibility would be as good. All in all, a wonderful experience, to top it off it was my sons 13th birthday, our waitress organised a special desert and the entire staff to sing to him, it was more of a show than anything else and a memory we wil never forget, such amazing staff! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We upgraded to a private cabana and oh what a fabulous day! Our attendant Simi was sensational - he magically appeared just at the right time, always - cocktails, food, information, more cocktails, ice cream! The cabanas are private n quiet. The other facilities are well appointed n interactive. Beautiful prestine waters sound the coral island with friendly happy Fiji hospitality. Worth the day out. Blackened fish tacos n naked lady cocktail highly recommended. Ps yes we found the leadin to confirmation a little worrisome, but trust the Fiji system n all will be well 🌺🫶

It’s a tourist trap, unless you like to just drink beer and listen non stop to music coming from 40 speakers placed around the area. Swimming is ok, snorkeling is minimal. Very crowded on a week day. Staff seems overworked and underpaid. The pool is so small that I walked by it and didn’t notice. Bathrooms and showers are unisex and together in a small enclosure so you smell urine and chemicals if you want to rinse off. Nothing is like in the ads.

Perfect day, pick up and drop off hassle free. We booked the Pool Side Day Bed which gave us a private pool and exceptional views. All with umbrellas that could be moved as the sun moved. Service and food and drinks were also great. We totally enjoyed our day, where you could do as little or as much as you wanted. We did it on our least day before leaving.

Definitely a must do! Beautiful island, you can be in quiet and peace but also enjoy the music and vibes. The food is amazing, staff is incredibly sweet and the water a dream!
