Mabamba Shoebill Tour Review I had a wonderful experience on the Mabamba Shoebill Tour. The trip through the beautiful wetlands was peaceful and exciting, and seeing the magnificent shoebill in its natural habitat was definitely the highlight. The guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful in locating the birds while making sure we respected their environment. The boat ride was enjoyable, and we also got to see several other bird species along the way. Overall, it was a memorable experience and I would highly recommend the Mabamba Shoebill Tour to anyone visiting Uganda, especially bird lovers and nature enthusiasts. A fantastic experience and definitely worth it!

Title: Unforgettable experience—seeing a living dinosaur up close! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Seeing the Shoebill stork in person is an absolute highlight for any wildlife lover. Standing nearly 5 feet tall with a massive, shoe-shaped bill and an intense glare, this bird looks like something straight out of the prehistoric era. Watching one freeze motionless in the marsh before making a sudden, lightning-fast strike for lungfish is incredible to witness. The quiet canoe ride through the papyrus wetlands adds to the adventure. If you're visiting East Africa, don't miss the chance to spot one in the wild—it's worth every second!

Innocent was knowledgeable, friendly and went out of his way to make our experience special. We had amazing Shoebill sightings and beautiful birdlife. Highly recommend Innocent for an unforgettable Mabamba experience!

Absolutely loved this experience. We saw so many birds and a male shoebill and a baby. Our guide Abdul was great, lovely guy and very informative.

Abdul Shakur was my guide for this activity and he was excellent! The boat drivers and naturalists were also very helpful and really go out of their way to try and help you get good photos. The tour lasted about 5 hours and only about an hour of that was in the swamp. I do wish we could spend a little more time in there since the birding was excellent. The boat ride on Lake Victoria was also lovely and seeing the Shoebill and its baby was an absolute highlight!!

Shoebill tour.  With Twija Africa Safaris was good.  Our guide Abdul Shakar picked us up promptly at our hotel.  A few mistakes were on the Viator platform, they did pick up at our Entebbe hotel (viator said out of area) and it was a private tour (viator said said group bus  tour) and it was only about 4 hours total (viatour said 6hrs). So be sure to contact the operator to verify everything. Twija replied promptly and confirmed all correct details. Abdul was friendly and knowledgeable,  he drove us to the boat launch. From there we took a motorboat about 40min across lake Victoria to the swamp landing, where a smaller motorized canoe was waiting for us with a driver and birding guide from the community.  We saw shoebill stork, which stand motionless for hours waiting for a fish to accidentally swim in front of them. You get about 10m away. The guides are good at positioning the canoe with the sun behind you for good photos.  We also saw jacana, lapwing, kingfisher, corrmoant, ducks, and egrets.   This would be difficult to organize on your own, if interested, take the tour. There are at least 4 different guys to tip, so bring numerous smaller denomination cash. An excellent tour. Nothing went wrong. Highly recommended.

This was a well coordinated trip and seeing the shoebills is such a unique experience! My guide, Abdul, was very kind and excited to talk about Kampala and Uganda. He reached out to me the day before the tour and arrived at my accommodations early to pick me up. You’ll take a boat cruise across Lake Victoria to reach the swamp then switch to a smaller boat. The team was great about getting me close to the shoebill. I saw a few flying as well! Abdul was always happy to offer fun facts, and kindly invited me to celebrate Eid with his family or even bring me food if I couldn’t make it. He did follow-up on this! Overall, definitely recommend a trip to see the shoebills if you can. It is a half day activity
