Located about 100 meters up from the north side of Heidelberg. Once reached, it provides a magnificent view of the old town and the Neckar river. We took the funicular railway to reach the castle and it was a convenient and speedy way to get there. Once there, this Castle was a gem of a find. First built back in the early 1200s, it went through devastating time effected by natural disasters and wars. However, this magnificent Renaissance structure, lived to be rescued and was partially rebuilt in 1893. Once at the site, the Castle meanders you to former times and presents one with greatness that once was enjoyed by former kings. Within the Castle one can enjoy snacks at a well situated cafe and other kiosks. Well worth the visit without a doubt.

The Heidelberg Castle and Day Tour was great especially due to our tour guide Micheal he is so amazing!! If you love learning the history not only of the castle and Heidelberg but of Germany Micheal is your guy. He is so personable and really gives a wealth of knowledge for history lovers! He is also just a really nice gentleman and is a great guide.

Heidelberg is a lovely town to visit with an interesting castle complex containing among other things, the world's largest wine barrel! A great day trip from Frankfurt. Cute town to wander around. I only wish we had more time to see the town. Overall, a lovely experience.
Heidelberg Castle is a delightful place, and spending a day there is an exceptional experience. The cable car ride is a great experience, and taking photos from the top of the castle is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
I was disappointed that we didn’t go inside the castle. Since the main title is “Heidelberg Castle…” it’s deceiving not to go inside. Our guide knew a great deal of history but literally held us back from exploring so he could tell us details.
Fun and informative tour! Completely enjoyed hearing the history of Heidelberg and seeing the castle and old town
Michael the driver/guide was amazing, the minivan is very comfortable and the driving time is around an hour to get to the castle. Heidelberg Castle is an incredible piece of history and the town is transporting you to another time. On the other hand , the time is not enough to explore and investigate all the things that you want to see. Michael try to accommodate you according with you wishes and the time frame of the tour. Overall this is an excellent excursion.
Our guide Michael was excellent. Personable, passionate about history and extremely knowledgeable. I just wish we had more time to explore the castle and the surrounding grounds
