Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience but I was lucky enough to go with a father and daughter who had lots of knowledge and were happy to share. On my own it might not have been as productive a visit. Everything was open and we spent most of the day there. There was plenty to see and do and although it was a Sunday, it wasn't too crowded.
We booked our tour directly with the Intrepid because my husband is blind and we were wanting a touch tour. I would highly recommend booking with a guide whether it be with the Intrepid or with TripAdvisor. While you can certainly enjoy this museum in a self-guided format, I was amazed at all that I learned by being with my husband and a knowledgeable guide. This museum is fascinating. There is so much to learn and out of all of the whirlwind tours we took in our 3 days in New York this was the tour that I did not want to end and never checked my watch once. Our guide was so knowledgeable and kind. He answered every question we asked and gave us so much information I would have never even known to ask as well. There are discounted ticket prices available to individuals with disabilities and one companion, so it is worth researching and definitely worth a visit with or without a discount. PS absolutely do not miss the Space Shuttle Enterprise. It’s worth the price of admission alone! PS this is a great museum for kids and tween boys.
The Intrepid Museum is one of the most fascinating attractions in New York for those who enjoy history, aviation, and space exploration. Located on the historic aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, docked on the Hudson River, the museum offers an immersive experience that allows you to tour the flight deck, see dozens of military aircraft, and discover stories of bravery through documentary videos. Among its biggest attractions are the space shuttle Enterprise, the submarine USS Growler, the only American submarine with the capability to launch nuclear missiles open to the public, and the legendary British Airways Concorde. They also have an interesting Gift Shop with great products.
Enjoyable. Kids were kind of into it for the first 1-2 hours and then started losing patience. Overall they had enough there for everyone. VR experience helped out with the little ones. Better than an ice cream museum.
It was interesting to learn a little about the history of the Intrepid, including the World War II Japanese kamikaze attacks that resulted in the deaths of many sailors who were buried at sea and the ship as out of commission for about 3 months before returning to the war. I also was not aware the Intrepid was the recovery ship for early NASA astronauts.
It was a great thing to do on vacation. My son loves airplanes when we got to the location there's parking lot near by. But the boat tour was great lots of things to see and experience. Would definitely recommend this.
It was a wonderfully informative visit. The staff was well informed and very helpful. I would recommend visiting this ship to anyone.
Quick online payment and prompt assistance via email... I received the tickets and reminders on my phone for the date.
I visited the Intrepid Museum using my Go City card and honestly couldn’t wait to leave. This place could be amazing — the history, the ship itself, the aircraft — but the whole experience feels like a museum frozen in time, and not in a charming way. More like something that hasn’t been updated since it opened in 1982. The layout is confusing and badly thought out. Instead of feeling immersive or educational, it’s just a series of disconnected spaces that don’t flow or tell a story. Everything feels cluttered, dated, and strangely boring for a museum that should be full of energy and excitement. The top deck was very slippery in the rain. Even the signage and displays look tired. To make matters worse, the place felt dirty and worn down, like it hasn’t had a proper revamp in years. With the right investment and imagination, this could be one of New York’s standout attractions — but right now it’s just a missed opportunity. I left disappointed, underwhelmed, and honestly relieved to leave. If you’re using a Go City card, there are far better ways to spend your time.
Fantastic value for money and a wonderful opportunity to look around intrepid!! The military aeroplanes on display have been restored to stunning condition and the chance to visit the submarine was the icing on the cake! Would definitely recommend.
