A very enjoyable day out with an informative and knowledgeable guide, Adil, of Auckland & Beyond Tours. I believe we saw the best of Coromandel and a long walk in heavy rain did nothing to spoil our enjoyment of the day.
We used Auckland & Beyond Tours during a recent family holiday in New Zealand. This experience was a full day tour of the Coromandel Penninsula. We loved the tour and it was a highlight experience of our holiday. Warren, our guide was tremendous: experienced and knowledgeable, cheerful, enthusiastic and fun. A former school headmaster, Warren used his experience to gauge his guests, customizing the tour toward our interests & inclinations. When we reached the point of the tour where we would hike down to Cathedral Beach, Warren offered our family an option to take a zodiac boat tour through Mercury Bay & Cathedral Cove. Since our adult son has some fear of heights and hiking at elevation, this seemed a great option. We especially love zodiac rides and we were not disappointed by this one. Warren made a great call for our family and it was certainly worth the extra $75/pp USD for the zodiac experience. Other tour highlights include coastal views along the Firth of Thames, the Driving Creek Railway & Pottery Workshop, Hot Water Beach. This was a day well spent and Warren’s guiding made it even better.
This was a fantastic tour with a very friendly driver and guide Henrik who knows everything about the area and the history of the place and country. We enjoyed the almost 12 hours of time we spent on this tour with Henrik.
Paulo was our guide and did an awesome job! The train ride was amazing with views that take your breath away. The “walk” to Cathedral Cove was a little challenging but worth the effort. We were the oldest in the group and brought up the rear but everyone was great! Hot Water Beach was great too.

He made sure everyone was comfortable, shared interesting facts along the way, and showed us some truly beautiful spots. The whole trip was well-organized, relaxing, and unforgettable. One of the least organized tours I have been on. I had received an email saying that Cathedral Bay, a highlight of the tour, had reopened but we were informed it was closed but maybe we could pay ourselves and take a water taxi or walk. We agreed to the water taxi but by the time we got there after driving through small towns so we could “see the beach” from the van, the water taxi was closed. The walk we were told we could do never materialized. Our guide didn’t know which cafe to go to in Thames for breakfast and asked which we liked the look of! We only got to the train ride by the skin of our teeth. We enjoyed the ride. Guide needs to improve organizational skills and have a Plan B when some things don’t work out such as with the weather.
We had the pleasure of having Warren as our driver and guide for the Coromandel Day Adventure from Auckland & Beyond Tours. He was outstanding. He brought fantastic energy to the day and handled circumstances beyond his control with grace and humour. His quick wit and great sense of humour made the experience even more enjoyable. Warren is incredibly knowledgeable, but what truly sets him apart is how genuine and sincere he is. He shared so much information while also really listening and engaging with us, making us feel like friends. He was flexible, relaxed, professional, and an excellent driver. What also impressed us was his willingness to help anyone — whether they were on his tour or not. We highly recommend Warren and Auckland & Beyond Tours for a memorable and exceptionally well-run experience. As promised- here is my review in a limerick: There once was a guide from Auckland named Warren, Who met us at six — bright-eyed, not worn-in. Went to Coromandel with a group of family friends — such a beautiful and memorable experience! We soaked in the natural hot water beach, hiked down to the breathtaking Cathedral Cove, and wrapped it up with a charming ride on the Creek Railway. The day was quite packed, and though we only had time for quick snacks, it gave us a wonderful snapshot of the scenic Coromandel Peninsula. It’s perfect if you want to cover all the highlights in one trip, but if you’d like to truly immerse yourself in the experience, I’d recommend slowing down and enjoying one attraction per day.
