A few friends and I compared several ways of getting to Florence from La Spezia, and we decided that having transportation arranged made more sense for our cruise schedule.
The morning pickup went smoothly, and the vehicle was comfortable for the longer stretches between locations. We liked that the day wasn't just one long guided walk. Having free time in Florence gave us the chance to wander, shop a little, grab lunch, and meet back up without feeling like we had to stay together every second.
Pisa was a fun second stop. We didn't need hours there, so the amount of free time felt appropriate for what we wanted to see.
The biggest benefit for our group was knowing that the return trip was planned around the ship's departure. We could actually enjoy the day instead of constantly checking our watches. Overall, a very enjoyable day with a good mix of structure and independence.

Florence Deserved More Time, But This Worked Well
This was our first visit to Florence, so naturally we wanted to see as much as possible. We knew that trying to cover Florence and Pisa from a cruise port would mean making some compromises, but the day was planned in a way that worked for us.
Florence was definitely where we spent most of our energy. We enjoyed walking around, looking at the architecture, taking photos, and stopping for lunch. The free time was one of our favorite parts because we could explore without feeling like we were being hurried from one landmark to another.
The stop in Pisa was shorter but still enjoyable. Seeing the Leaning Tower in person was one of those simple travel moments that made the trip worthwhile.
Transportation was comfortable, and getting picked up and dropped off near the cruise terminal made the whole day easier. We also appreciated the cancellation policy when making our plans in advance.

Florence Was the Highlight, Pisa Was a Great Bonus
Four of us booked this during our cruise stop and thought it was a good way to see two famous places without trying to organize trains and taxis ourselves. The pickup at the cruise terminal was easy, and the transportation was comfortable throughout the day.
We really liked having free time rather than being accompanied every minute. In Florence, we could split up briefly, take photos, explore the streets, and stop for coffee. There was enough flexibility for everyone in our group to enjoy the city in their own way. Pisa was more of a quick sightseeing stop, but seeing the Leaning Tower in person was still worth it.
The schedule worked well for a cruise excursion. We never felt that we were cutting things dangerously close to departure time. The cancellation policy also gave us some reassurance when booking ahead.
It was a full day, but it didn't feel unnecessarily complicated. For a group of friends, that balance worked really well.

A Lovely Day Exploring Tuscany
My partner and I wanted to make the most of our La Spezia port day, and this gave us a chance to see both Florence and Pisa without spending the entire day figuring out transportation.
Florence was our favorite part. We enjoyed simply walking through the historic center, stopping for coffee, taking photos, and having a relaxed lunch. Having designated free time made the experience feel less like we were following a strict schedule. Pisa was a different experience and fun to see after Florence. Of course, we had to take the classic leaning tower photos.
The air-conditioned vehicle was very welcome between stops, particularly after walking around Florence. Pickup and drop-off at the cruise terminal also made everything much easier.
We were back toward the ship with plenty of time, which removed a lot of the usual stress that comes with independent sightseeing during a cruise. A very nice combination of sightseeing and free time.

A Very Manageable Florence and Pisa Day
Our family had been looking forward to seeing Florence and Pisa, but we were a little nervous about fitting both places into a cruise day. The pickup from the cruise terminal was straightforward, and having transportation arranged made the morning much less stressful. The vehicle was modern and comfortable, which was especially appreciated with the amount of walking we did later.
Florence was the main highlight for us. We had enough free time to walk around, see the major sights, grab something to eat, and take plenty of photos without feeling like we were constantly being rushed. Pisa was a shorter stop, but it was exactly what we needed to see the famous leaning tower and have some time around the square.
The return timing was probably the thing our family cared about most. We didn't want to spend the whole day worrying about getting back to the ship. Everything stayed on schedule, and we returned with time to spare. A very enjoyable family day overall.

Lorenzo was the best tour...
Lorenzo was the best tour guide you could ask for. This excursion was a good mix of walking and riding the bus. Great way to see the areas and learn more about the history. Wish we had a bit longer in Florence to shop and eat, but excellent experience. Would highly recommend this tour.

A lot more walking than advertised
It should be stated for all travelers to fully understand that it is a 2 hour ride to get there. Then approx 1 mile walk from the drop off point to center city. If you can not walk you will have to lay xtra for a taxi to get you to the meeting point. Then it’s the same issue to head home a mile plus walk and possible taxis. Florence is also expensive for lunch or dining. The trip to Pisa is another hour plus and again with a long walk to see the venues and the long walk back. Most seniors will have a hard time and will exhaust themselves. Last, 1 plus hour to get back to the ship making it a long day.

Thank you for your feedback.
That is correct: Florence is located approximately a couple of hours’ drive from the cruise port, and tourist transport is not permitted to enter the historical city centre. For this reason, walking is required during the tour. The same applies to Pisa.
Guests with limited walking ability may wish to consider alternative arrangements, such as taxis where available, or private tours offering greater flexibility. Please note that the “Additional Information” section of the tour description clearly states that this tour is not wheelchair accessible and is not recommended for guests with limited walking ability.
Regarding dining costs, Florence and Pisa are world-famous destinations visited by millions of guests each season, and prices may vary depending on the location chosen by each guest. Meals are not included in this tour, and guests are free to choose where and whether they wish to dine during their free time.
For guests who find dining in Florence and Pisa too expensive or for whom the required walking is not suitable, remaining on board your comfortable cruise ship and enjoying the included dining options may be a better choice.
Safe travels!
