We had a great time and learned a lot. Wear walking shoes as there are many opportunities to hike. Johnny was an excellent guide!

This tour is pretty awesome - but I will toss out a couple things to look for when considering booking or as you join the tour group. 1) Check the weather and adjust your booking if possible if visibility is poor. Our picture opportunities were limited by clouds and it likely changed our overall experience at the top. It’s out of our or the guide’s control - but worth considering if you have flexibility! 2) Budget your time wisely. Our tour went seamlessly because we skipped lunch and went right to the exhibits/bunker, but others were frustrated with a lack of time/structure once we came down from the Eagle’s Nest. I recommend skipping lunch or eating quickly! Also - DON’T make plans such as rides or reservations after the tour. We ended up being very late (more than 1 hr) due to road construction and traffic. 3) Read the fine print. Two things here - first, take cash and your card everywhere (especially on tours). We could only pay for the tickets to go up via credit card so some people experienced only half of what they could have. Also, it does say to bring your passport. I missed this and didn’t have one - so I don’t know why it would be required… Better safe than sorry though! Overall, having a guide was a bit unnecessary on this but and not having to organize our own travel was a nice luxury. If we had a car or felt more comfortable with the public transit - I think you’d get similar value due to the restriction of tour guides offering tours up top and the fact that the exhibits/bunker are audio guided.
Wow what a trip from going into Austria to all the WW2 history loved every minute don’t miss the opportunity to take this trip!!
Felicia, our tour was very knowledgeable and personable and made the tour very enjoyable and informative. Our only criticism is that VIATOR, the tour company charges the entry fee separately while on the bus. A complete breakdown of all expenses upfront at booking would have been appreciated. Michael, our tour guide, was very professional, pleasant and extremely knowledgeable! Coincidentally, our tour was there during the Fall Festival for the city of Heidelberg. There were tents with food and souvenirs and many happy faces. The German bands added more of their country’s culture and enjoyment to the tour! Thank you Michael for a great day!!

It was a great tour and our guide Liselotte (spelling ?) was exceptional!! She made sure everyone was comfortable and paid attention to detail. Unfortunately, it rained and the clouds and fog covered the view. On our bus ride there, Liselotte explained the different buildings and views from the country’s history. Rain didn’t dampen our experience! The bus driver was great with excellent driving skills!
First of all, this is labeled as Eagle’s Nest and Berchtesgaden, but they tell you when you’re boarding the bus that you’re not going to Berchtesgaden, just to Eagle’s Nest. We drove through Berchtesgaden to get to the Eagle’s Nest but that’s it. It is a misleading title so I would like to help people avoid having the experience we did. The guide said it was a 2 hour drive but was in fact 3 hours. Don’t fret! On this excursion you will get a bathroom on the bus without toilet paper and without water for washing your hands. You also have to pay separately for a transfer “special” bus to the Eagle’s Nest which you pay for while you’re on the bus. It is 36 Euro per person. The machine didn’t work to accept credit card, so they made us ask the restaurant we went to give us a cash advance which. Insanity. I would not recommend this tour. Lottie was very nice, which made the experience better, but doesn’t take away from the misleading information. Also it took 3 and a half hours to get home so don’t have dinner reservations if you go to this.
The drive was scenic and comfortable, the walk to the castle was very steep. Enjoyed the whole day
Spend time in the documentation center and bunker. Skip eating at the restaurant-marginal food/service.
