Balik Pulau means the back of the mountain in Malaydian. This area is the west side and the rural area of the island. People grow Durian trees, Palm trees for a living. I am happy to see the Durian trees and Palm trees and know how the farmers make a living here. There will be a driver to pick you up at around 7am in the morning from where you stay and will take 40 mins to get to Balik Pulau.
It is a nice change of pace from Georgetown and the resort. Although the bikes were a bit small, they were fine for this few-hour tour. A lot is said about the developments of the landscape and the villages, different cultures, and nature. Interesting and certainly worth getting up so early for ;-)
This was such a fun activity. We went at the pace the group wanted. Excellent transport to and from the venue (with a very kind detour, suggested by Henry our driver so some of the group got to visit another attraction). Eddie our guide was brilliant - good at explaining things we saw. His sense of humour was amazing. I'd highly recommend this activity 👌
A highly recommended experience if you want to see an authentic side of Malaysia and learn more about life in the countryside. Eddie was fun, friendly and very informative, sharing lots of interesting insights about the country’s economy, agriculture and local habits. He took us through farms, fishing villages and other interesting spots along the way. He was also very well prepared for both the rain and the intense heat, and we had a nice coffee break in the middle of the ride. Everything was very well organized, including the transfer from Kuala Lumpur, with convenient hotel pick-up and drop-off.
Great half day tour with Eddie. I hadn’t ridden a bike since I was a kid, so was a little nervous but there was very little traffic and the paths were pretty flat, so I felt very comfortable. Eddie was knowledgeable about the area and sites. The landscape was beautiful and morning was a great time to be out, before it got too hot.
This was a fabulous way to see parts of Penang that are off the beaten track. À great experience for first time visitors to the region.

Eddie our guide was on time, fun and very knowledgable. The bikes are new, and despite being 190cm, I fit comfortably. Roads are easy with no traffic and it was just great to see the beautiful Penang countryside and how people and communities live among one another. The farms were also quite fun. Good that it's in the morning as it gets hot!
If you want to understand more about life on Penang, interact with locals and see the countryside, then you should consider this tour. It was nice getting up early to make the most of the morning before the day became too hot. Eddy, our guide, was very friendly, knowledgeable and had a good sense of humour. He showed us a wide range of places such as Malay and Chinese fishing villages, palm plantations, a goat farm, and we also stopped for a coffee and snack. It was a great experience, and one that I am pleased I booked. It provided a great opportunity to explore what life outside of George Town is like. I also really enjoyed the freedom of being on a bike and the breeze when cycling down quiet roads and paths. I would defintely book this experience again and recommend to anyone who wants to understand more about the island beyond what George Town has to offer. Thank you, Eddy, for being a wonderful guide!
I enjoyed the half-day cycling tour and would definitely recommend the experience to others. Both pick-up from and drop-off at my Georgetown hotel was smooth and efficient. The cycling tour itself was both enjoyable and informative. TC the guide, spoke excellent English, was a pleasure to talk to and was incredibly knowledgeable about Balik Pulau and Penang in general. However, there are two points future participants should probably be aware of: 1) The bicycles used are old and rickety. 2) The goat farm on the itinerary doubles as a petting zoo for a strange assortment of animals; some of which are housed in less-than-ideal cages/pens.
