A very professionally managed tour to the Great Barrier Reef. Pick & drop off to our hotel via coach was smooth and comfortable. The Boat is huge and very powerful but the onboard experience was again very good and comfortable. Once we got to the destination pontoon all the crew and staff quickly setup for the numerous activities available. The basic tour ticket entitled us to Snorkelling, all equipment and wetsuits included, submarine tours and an underwater observatory, which were all great ways to see the reef and its wildlife. For additional fees there was scuba diving, scuba masks and even helicopter tours available. A great buffet lunch and tea/coffee/biscuits available on the outward and return was great to keep everyone sustained. The day flew by and the crew and all staff were great!

Hugely disappointing experience and poor value for money
Sold as 3 hours on the reef which it is however in that time you also fit in lunch if you want to eat and 30 minutes before departure they want you back on the boat so the time in the water is very limited. First time snorkeling for me and there were three issues: first no-one to assist with the snorkeling gear, second the access to the water was very congested as was the snorkeling area with people bumping into you all of the time, third it was a windy day with a current running, visibility was poor and the reef is pretty deep so as a beginner I didn't see much at all. Buffet lunch was mediocre. There were just over 200 people on this trip, goodness knows what it's like with a full boat of 400. Having travelled all this way to see the Barrier Reef it was hugely disappointing. I wish we had done more research and saved some money.

A Great Way to enjoy the Great Barrier Reef--to witness underwater life
Great and enjoyable trip to the Great barrier Reef. The trip provided various options to enjoy--snorkelling, diving, a submersible trip, helicopter ride and a underwater walk with a helmet Snorkelling area was well marked and there were life guards who will also assist you if you are a newcomer Highly recommend a trip to Barrier reef with Quciksilver

Don’t be transparent with this company
Very disappointing experience with Quicksilver, particularly in the way the company’s medical screening process was handled.
I am an experienced recreational diver who has been diving since the 1990s. I was looking forward to getting back on the Great Barrier Reef and booked this trip specifically to dive the outer reef.
I take Xarelto (rivaroxaban) 20 mg daily because of a portal vein thrombosis I had more than two years ago. I disclosed this honestly on the medical questionnaire because I assumed that was the responsible thing to do. The dive master then consulted the company’s physician, and I was told I could not dive.
I have since looked carefully at the diving-medicine literature and guidance because I wanted to understand what had actually happened. What I found was quite different from the impression given to me on the day. There is very limited evidence concerning recreational diving while taking rivaroxaban, and I could not find a documented case of a recreational diver taking rivaroxaban who experienced a diving-related bleeding complication. The concerns that are commonly cited are largely theoretical. There is also disagreement among diving-medicine organizations about whether anticoagulation should be an absolute contraindication or assessed on an individual basis.
That distinction matters.
I have no objection to genuine safety precautions. What I object to is treating a theoretical risk, in an individual with a remote medical history and substantial diving experience, as sufficient reason to categorically prevent that person from diving—without any meaningful individualized assessment or opportunity to provide medical clearance.
The result was that I disclosed a medical condition in good faith and was effectively punished for doing so. I lost the opportunity to do the very activity for which I had booked the trip.
The company is entitled to have a conservative medical policy, but customers should be told clearly when a decision is based on a precautionary policy rather than established evidence of significant risk. In my view, the process should have allowed an experienced diver with a stable, remote medical history to obtain appropriate dive-medicine clearance in advance rather than simply being refused on the day.
I found the experience extremely frustrating and, frankly, avoidably disappointing. I would encourage Quicksilver to reconsider how it handles anticoagulated divers and distinguish between documented medical risk and theoretical worst-case scenarios.
I had been genuinely excited about diving the outer reef. Instead, I spent the day on the boat unable to participate in the experience I had traveled to Port Douglas to have.
That was a real disappointment, and in my view it was the result of an unnecessarily rigid medical-screening process rather than an evidence-based assessment of my individual circumstances.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. We understand how disappointing it was to travel to Port Douglas looking forward to diving and then be unable to participate.
We would like to clarify the process that was followed. Your declared medical condition was referred to a doctor specialising in dive medicine for assessment. Based on the information provided, the doctor advised that you should not undertake diving without first completing an approved dive medical in accordance with SPUMS (South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society.) or AS 4005.1 which is Australian Standard relating to medical assessment for recreational divers.
We appreciate that there are differing views and discussions within the diving community regarding anticoagulant medication and diving. However, once a participant has declared a medical condition and that information has been referred to a qualified doctor specialising in dive medicine, we have a responsibility to follow the medical advice provided. We are not in a position to disregard or override that advice based on our own interpretation of medical literature or a participant's previous diving experience.
Had we allowed you to dive contrary to the advice provided by a trained dive-medicine doctor and the worst were to occur, we would then be required to answer to the relevant authorities as to why we permitted a participant to dive against that medical advice. This is not a risk we can responsibly take.
We certainly do not view declaring a medical condition as being "punished" for doing the right thing. We encourage participants to disclose medical conditions honestly so that appropriate safety decisions can be made. In circumstances where further medical clearance is required, participants are welcome to obtain the appropriate approved dive medical before travelling, so that their fitness to dive can be assessed in accordance with the relevant diving-medicine standards.
We understand the disappointment this caused. However, the decision was made in accordance with specialist medical advice and our duty of care to the safety of our passengers.

We had an amazing time scuba diving with Gordon, our great guide! Saw reef shark, another smaller shark (idk the name) and many other fishes and beautiful corals. Good food and good vibes!
