This tour is totally off the beaten path. Though not as tall as SIGIRIYA, The climb to YAPAHUWA is also a bit tough. HaththiKuchchi literally means the Belly of an Elephant- so named because the rock there resembles the belly of an elephant. Like all other Buddhist monasteries Haththikuchchi has caves and water streams going through the caves and ledges at the top to prevent rainwater entering the caves.
Having travelers highlight places like Yapahuwa and Haththikuchchi is especially valuable to us. Incorporating lesser-known monastery sites and rock formations into our journeys is key to what we like to do, as these quieter spots often end up being the most appreciated by our guests. We hope you enjoyed exploring these unique historical sites. Best regards,
