Bit of a late review, but I think about and talk about this tour often. My partner and I went on this tour at the end of February. I was initially a little bit skeptical about the weather as it was raining season, but as the guide explained conditions on Papandayan can change quickly. We chose the sunrise tour as you can explore more of Papandayan, and climb is cooler conditions. It was still cloudy in the morning but it did not ruin the sunrise. The light revealed the beauty of Pandayan and the silhouettes of surrounding mountains. Before the tour there was great communication with the company preparing you with your itinerary and list of things to bring/wear. Our driver arrived promptly at 3.30 am at our hotel in the centre of Garut. He then drove us towards Papandayan and picked up our guide, Dani. You arrive around 4:30 am and start your climb. Dani is incredible!! He tailors your tour towards you, on what your want to see and how fit you are feeling. We were interested in craters, and took us to a secret sunrise spot, sthe centre of the last eruption, a hidden volcanic lake and another dead forest with larger trees. With Dani you can go off track and see places that not many are able to see. If you want an adventure, this is the tour for you. Dani is also very knowledgeable about the area blending both scientific and sociological knowledge. If we had a question, we felt comfortable to ask and Dani was happy to answer. Following Papandayan, we continued to lunch and Naga Village, about 1.5 hours away (nap time). At Naga Village you can see a traditional side to Garut, where people welcome you into their home and walk around the rice terraces. Really lovely village with views that reminds you of Bali. I highly recommend this tour and would 100% book this tour again.
