A visit with a lot of history, the lake is impressive
Our boat trip across the lake to the floating islands was fascinating. Walking on a mat of reeds felt unsettling, but quite safe. The basic living arrangements were minimal as everything is built from local flora and food is mostly fish and birds! No electricity or utilities, but no taxes! Puno is a good sized town but the major attraction is obviously the lake activities
Dear guest, We sincerely thank you for sharing your experience at Lake Titicaca and the Uros Floating Islands. We are delighted to know that you enjoyed the boat trip and had the opportunity to experience this fascinating traditional way of life built on totora reeds. Walking on the floating islands is certainly a unique and memorable experience that allows visitors to appreciate the history, culture, and ancestral traditions of the local communities. We are also pleased that you were able to learn more about daily life in the region and enjoy the attractions that Puno and the lake have to offer. Thank you for your preference, and we look forward to welcoming you again on future experiences in Peru.
Lake Titicaca is about 3,800 m above sea level and is considered the highest navigable lake in the world, as well as the largest freshwater supply in South America. Chiticaca is still considered one of the oldest, having been formed several million years ago. And that's not the whole list, which makes the lake unique. It still has inhabited floating islands on the Peruvian side. These islands are man-made, their people Uros build from layers of cut totora, a thick floating hazel that grows abundantly in the shallow waters of Lake Titicaca. People harvest hazel and build islands and houses out of it, and that is their permanent residence. In such circumstances, the Uros people have lived for centuries. Tours are organized for tourists to visit lake locals. We were lucky to be visiting Uros. The people are hospitable, happy to introduce visitors to their island, tell and show how construction takes place. For an additional fee of 20 soles, a trip on the lake is offered in pretty bunk boats.

The visit of Lake Titicaca, the floating islands of the Uros Indians and Amantani Island remains for us an unforgettable memory!!!!! The site is beautiful and the welcome of the Uro Indians, descendants of the Incas is touching and truly moving. Moreover, the Peruvian people are wonderfully kind. On the other hand, when sailing on Lake Titicaca, sunglasses essential following the strong reverberation of the sun on the water
Lake Titicaca is impressive, at almost 4,000 m high with about 60 km by 20 wide or a maximum depth of 500 meters. Super recommended
Visiting Lake Titicaca was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The views of the deep blue waters surrounded by mountains are breathtaking, and the cultural richness makes it even more special. I loved exploring the floating islands of the Uros and learning about their traditions, as well as meeting the warm and welcoming families who live there. The boat ride was peaceful and gave me time to appreciate the vastness of the lake. It’s a place where nature and culture blend perfectly, leaving unforgettable memories.
A must-see destination during a stay in Puno. Lake Titicaca, fascinating even if only because it is the highest navigable basin in the world at 3800 meters, is visited with the typical excursions departing in the morning from Puno and returning at 16:00 in the same place. The classic tour includes in the early morning a visit to one of the islands of the Uros, the historical tribes that for centuries have lived in the floating islands in apparent isolation from the mainland, followed by the longest visit to the island of Taquile, where you have lunch and learn about the customs and traditions of the local population. The trip was very beautiful, original, suggestive and sometimes authentic! On the horizon of Lake Titicaca the Bolivian coasts are clearly visible. It is definitely worth it, during the day the sun also always shines so it was not necessary to cover up excessively.
Stunning lake, we did a tour from Puno to Uros islands group. Fantastic interaction with the locals. We learnt about community living, local schools and floating clinics. Harsh life but the locals smiled through all of it. Lake Titicaca itself changes its moods and colours throughout the day
We visited puno and the lake for a few days. We went onto the floating islands and had the most wonderful lunch with a family whilst here. The lake is beautiful and whilst we were there it was very calm to travel on.
