I’ve been intrigued with pickled limes soup ever since I read a story in Emergence Magazine and I am so happy to be able to try making my own authentic Khmer chicken soup with pickled limes with Reveal Angkor Hotel. The host was super friendly and flexible when I made a request to make this pickled lime chicken soup instead of what they had originally offered (the taste may not appeal to all but it’s more “local” than Amok). They were very hygienic, reminding me to wash my hands repeatedly, clean cutting boards each time keeping the meat and vegetables separate. The ingredients were so beautifully fresh and local! I was the only person who signed up but the host showed up with the same amount of dedication and attention. I made a chicken salad, an Amok fish curry, a soup, and a banana dessert! There’s less than half the portion shown in the photos because I know I wouldn’t be able to finish all the food and the host was happy to share the food I made with the staff. They even gave me a certificate and printout of the recipes at the end! It really means a lot for us to support the local community right now and I sincerely hope and recommend all visitors to try this out.
the cooking class it very good and lovely I study with a chef who having lot of experience and helpful it really Happy time to eating the food that I make by self thank you 💗
This was such a fun experience! Teng was so accommodating with our family. We have 3 young kids, one is 6 months old, and the staff was so kind and helped watch them while my wife and I cooked. the food was delicious and the best we had eaten in Siem Reap. can't recommend this highly enough!
Head to the local market in a Tuktuk to discover local products, vegetables, fish, etc. Back at the hotel, two chefs are waiting for us. Little chef outfit (apron, hat) for me and my friend. On a large table, everything is available for cooking. (local products, spices, herbs, meat, equipment, etc.) explanations of the menu that we will prepare and then eat. Everything is detailed, explained, demonstrated. Then it’s up to us 👩🍳😁 Very nice experience that I recommend. First of all for the discovery of products and especially Khmer cuisine. Very well framed. A great discovery activity to get you started in Cambodia. Bravo to the chefs for their professionalism. Good value for money 🤩 😍
If you have time after a tour, you should try. this is best of the best experience ever, chef guide you to the market and explain you the local product and after back to the place for cooking. love this local experience and highly recommend, specially with family traveling
This was an incredible experience! The attention to details far exceeded expectations. Ms. Than Chandy arranged our ride and was helpful throughout the class. We had a lovely market tour with Mr. Bun Lengkou who is well traveled and culturally knowledgeable. We learned so much from Chef Kao Koytong and prepared four local dishes including amok to our delight. The staff was so fun, they joked among themselves and Us. We had a wonderful time. I highly recommend this class.
The cooking class is excellent. The chef is direct and explains the steps to follow very well. The PROBLEM was that they made me pay for hotel pick-up and drop-off, even though it is included. A shame to have ruined such a good experience.
From start to finish, this class was a complete joy. Prior to booking the experience, our questions were answered by the point of contact, Teng. Teng’s communication was prompt and the scheduling was seamless. Our tuk-tuk driver was accompanied by our host for the day, Mollika, who works with the Reveal Angkor Hotel Siem Reap. Even though she is your host, she makes you feel like you have been friends for life within a few minutes. When we first met her, she was beaming with a huge smile and so excited to share information on the local area and the local market we first visited. She took us through the market, explaining the history, as well as the daily ins and outs of the market. We also learned a great deal about the ingredients we would be cooking with. Following our visit to the market, we headed to the hotel where our cooking class was set up with a beautiful spread of food and our awesome teacher, Chef Chanreah. They kindly allowed us a moment to take it all in, snap some photos, and showed us the quaint garden where some of the ingredients are grown. They provided us with a refreshing glass of water and assembled us in our very own Chef’s hat and apron. Lyha, another kind soul, explained the dishes we were about to prepare and we were off. Chef Chanreah was so patient and kind while showing us all of the proper techniques with which to prepare the dishes. Mollika was there the entire time to help translate and give us more history and information on the food we were preparing. Mollika even told us that the Beef Lok Lak, a traditional Khmer dish, is often prepared by parents for their children as an expression of love for them. Alicia and I looked at each other and jokingly noted that our parents had never cooked it for us. All in all, we prepared Chicken Banana Salad, Beef Lok Lak, Fish Amok, and a Banana Delight dessert. Once we completed the dishes, they sat us down at a beautifully set table and allowed us to enjoy our creations. Upon finishing our four-course meal, we were stuffed and completely satisfied. Just when we thought we were done, Mollika and Lyha presented us with our certificates of completion AND the recipes and ingredients for everything we had made. It was a great touch and a memory we are sure to hold on to. We then left the hotel and made our way back to our accommodations and couldn’t stop talking about the experience the entire way home. The day after our class, Teng followed up again to make sure we had a wonderful time. We most certainly did!
The class offered nice flexibility as I was the only student - so I was able to prepare exactly what I preferred. Quality of ingredients was top notch and quantity was plentiful. Good pro-health precautions were taken with ample gloves, fresh plates, cutting boards and knives. Class is held in outdoor patio setting - no a/c so early morning class is good. I believe it lasted about 2 hours total.
We did banana salad, beef lok lak, fish amok, and banana delight. We had 2h of fun, cooking khmer food. All the staff was very nice to us!! And we had a certificate at the end!! Lunch was great :)
