Our day in Bolgheri with our private tour guide, Margarethe, was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Italy! We booked a full day with BWT, and from the very beginning, Margarethe made the experience feel completely personalized. She took the time to understand our wine preferences and selected wonderful wineries that were perfectly suited to our tastes. Thanks to her recommendations, we discovered several new favorite wines from the Bolgheri region that we will definitely be seeking out again at home. Margarethe’s knowledge is exceptional. She is incredibly familiar with Bolgheri and its wineries, but her expertise extends far beyond the region. We loved learning from her vast knowledge of wines and wine regions in general throughout the day. Another highlight was our incredible food and wine pairing lunch. We enjoyed a wonderful meal paired with three exceptional wines, including some of the big, bold Tuscan wines. The food, wines, and pairings were fantastic and made for such a memorable part of the day. It was the perfect opportunity to slow down, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and experience firsthand how beautifully the wines of Tuscany complement the local cuisine. What made the experience even more special was Margarethe herself. She was personable, friendly, accommodating, and an absolute pleasure to spend the day with. Our conversations were wonderful, and by the end of the tour, it honestly felt as though we had made a lifelong friend. We enjoyed a beautiful, full day exploring Bolgheri, tasting incredible wines, enjoying fabulous food, learning so much, and simply taking in the entire experience. We cannot recommend Margarethe and Bolgheri Wine Tours highly enough. We are already looking forward to returning to Bolgheri and would absolutely book another tour with her when we do. Five stars, no hesitation. Margarethe and Francesca of Bolgheri Wine Tours are simply the best in the business, and this was our second trip using them … and we will keep coming back. Every winery, every restaurant, everywhere we went, people's faces lit up the second they heard their names. We lost count of how many times we heard "oh, you're the couple Margarethe made the reservation for!" with a huge, genuine smile. That kind of warmth can't be manufactured — it's the product of real relationships built over years. But it's so much more than (great) wine. They're truly full-service and really care that you have just the best experience: hotel recommendations, restaurant reservations, even hiking suggestions for a well-timed off day to recover from all the tastings. They arranged a driver, Max, who was fantastic — warm, easygoing, and made every transfer a pleasure rather than a chore. Nothing was left to chance, and nothing felt like "just business." These are fun, delightful people who happen to also be extraordinarily knowledgeable and connected. The winery visits during harvest where we tasted the grapes, had barrel samples, watched the sorting tables in action, had tastings and lunch with winemakers and winery owners, etc. were just simply incredible … EVERY time. If you're headed to Bolgheri and want it done right: real access, real relationships, real care for your whole experience, then book Margarethe and Francesca immediately. We are already planning our next trip back just so we can have a once in a lifetime experience … again!

What an amazing experience. From the initial contact via email where we discussed our specific needs and the tour was designed to meet them to the actual day. Margarethe and Max, the driver, were fantastic. Margarethe knows so much and gave us so much insight into the history and background of Bolgheri. We were greeted with great warmth by all the vineyards as they all know Margarethe well and it was simply a very special day…I learned a lot about the wines and all our questions were answered all the time. I cannot recommend these guys enough ! We also got some great recommendations for places to eat the day before and after the tour and the team booked them for us

Most magical day from start to finish. Picked up in a sprinter and taken to a special winery and lunch in a beautiful town with amazing home cooked food. Then off to another winery to finish the day! Best day ever. Margarite was knowledgeable and so pleasant to be with

We had a lovely and educational day with Margarethe in Bolgheri. We had just come from Piemonte, and it was so interesting to see the differences in the vineyard management and geography in Bolgheri. We visited two wineries where we had detailed tours of the properties, each with a different emphasis. The views from both were amazing! We were able to taste great representations of the Bolgheri style of red blend wines and ended up buying some to be shipped home. The osteria lunch in the village of Bolgheri was a high point as well. We valued the fact that Margarethe is a credentialed wine educator and was able to answer whatever questions we came up with. She also took some great photos that she sent on to us that evening. If we are ever lucky enough to return to Bolgheri, I would not hesitate to book this tour again.

What a wonderful introduction to Bolgheri and its beautiful wines! Margarethe and Francesca of Bolgheri Wine Tours were the highlight of our visit to this part of Italy. We also cannot forget to mention Max, our dapper driver for the day! We enjoyed learning about the history of wine making in the region and truly appreciated Margarethe’s expertise and knowledge of Bolgheri wines and the many producers in DOC. She and Francesca set up wonderful private tastings and tours of Bolgheri’s most historic and iconic wineries, lunches at the best Osterias, and other activities such as a biking tour so we could fully immerse ourselves in the culture here.
