Från Mary, Queen of Scots till Bonnie Prince Charlie, diakon Brodie och mer, detta är ett oslagbart tillfälle att upptäcka Edinburghs rika historia. Robert, din lokala guide, kommer klädd i en kilt för din privata rundtur. Han kommer också att bära en bok med arkivbilder. Robert kommer att visa dig stadens ikoniska landmärken samtidigt som han delar fascinerande insikter om dess förflutna. Med våra arkivbilder kommer du att kunna se hur Edinburgh har förändrats genom åren - och till och med jämföra det med dess nuvarande motsvarighet. Din tur börjar precis innanför huvudporten till Greyfriars Kirkyard. Du får reda på om Edinburghs berömda 'wee grävt'; Greyfriars Bobby. Det finns ett antal versioner av hans berättelse. Vi låter dig göra ditt eget sinne!
Candlemaker Row och Grassmarket är nästa på din rutt. Du får reda på ett av Skottlands mest betydelsefulla bröllop och hur det påverkade Edinburgh. Du följer vägen för bröllopsfesten.
Din tur kommer att ta flera platser längs Edinburghs berömda Royal Mile. Vi får se var Mary, drottningen av skotterna tillbringade en del av sin barndom, vi besöker en charmig liten innergård (med en kunglig länk) och vi kommer att upptäcka den mycket konstiga historien om diakon William Brodie och hans hängande. Vi får täcka en kort historia av St Giles innan vi besöker platsen för det gamla Mercat Cross. Du får lära dig om betydelsen av denna plats i berättelsen om prins Charles Edward Stewart ('Bonnie Prince Charlie') innan vi besöker en atmosfärisk gammal stad nära. Berättelserna här kommer att vara ganska minnesvärda ...
Cowgate ignoreras ofta av andra turer, men vi kommer att utnyttja det mesta när vi upptäcker hur livet var för Edinburghs viktorianska fattiga.
Vi besöker två hållplatser som tillhör det berömda universitetet i Edinburgh. Burke och Hare, de ökända irländska mördarna, kom dit vi gör vårt näst sista stopp. Du får reda på hur det här paret fungerade, varför de kunde mörda så många människor ... och slutligen vad som hände dem. Vi kanske till och med tittar på den "traditionella" Highland-outfit som din guide kommer att ha på sig. Ditt slutliga stopp sker nära Old College (eller, om det är öppet för oss, inuti Old College). Detta är kanske en av de mest fascinerande platserna på vår turné. Det ser otroligt ut nu ... men historien vi delar är ännu mer explosiv. Bokstavligen!

I wanted a bespoke walking tour for a group of summer students visiting Edinburgh University. It only took a couple of emails with Robert and we'd sorted out the itinerary. The tour was fantastic - we had a fixed finish time at a restaurant for a group meal and Robert delivered all of us there right on time after a really enjoyable 90 minutes guided walk. Easily the best value Edinburgh tourist experience I've ever come across.

Robert at Historic Edinburgh Tours delivered an absolutely exceptional walking tour of Edinburgh. From the very first stop, his depth of knowledge, engaging storytelling, and genuine passion for the city brought every street and landmark to life. He struck the perfect balance between history and entertainment, making the experience both informative and memorable for everyone in our group. What really stood out was how he connected with us... answering questions, adding personal touches, and keeping the energy high throughout the tour of Old Town, New Town, The Royal Mile, graveyards and more. An informative and engaging tour for P7's from Robert today. The children loved all the stories and facts especially the more gruesome ones! The tour was tailored to the interests of the class and it worked brilliantly! Lots of discussion and questioning made it a very active session for the whole class. They loved it! Highly recommend.

Robert is the absolute best! We had a ball spending our first afternoon in Edinburgh in his company. My husband and I weren’t sure which of his tours we wanted to book, so he ended up taking us on a bespoke tour of the city made to match our interests. I booked the Old Edinburgh walking tour for our 3 primary 7 classes to support our Old Edinburgh topic. It was amazing! Having been taught by Robert myself I knew it would not disappoint. The tour was engaging, pitched at the right level and loved by all the children and our adult helpers. I’m amazed at how much was packed into 90 minutes. The props, handouts and interactions made the experience! As a teacher it was excellent to hand over to an expert, the children gained a lot of knowledge and visited places they’d never been before. A school trip around old Edinburgh. Tour was great and set at the right pace. Robert was enthusiastic, very informative and kept 30 kids engaged and interested. In fact his stories and info were enough to keep them quiet. No mean feat! Lots learned about Edinburgh’s history for the kids and adults alike. That the kids were talking about things that he said later on is proof enough. Fully recommend.
