Resplan

5 min

50 min

Full Scottish immersion road trip

Had a lovely trip with our guide and driver Peter. A multitasking legend with good humour and an immense historic knowledge. He got unwell half way through the trip but Timber Bush navigated this very well and we got to continue our tour as planned.

Feeling lost in the middle of nowhere

At first, everything was excellent. The journey started smoothly, and the driver was friendly and professional. Unfortunately, the experience changed completely when our driver became ill and was unable to continue. We would like to make it clear that this was not the driver’s fault, and we sincerely hope he recovers quickly. The real issue was the company’s handling of the situation. We were left waiting a small café in a tiny village for almost five hours before a replacement driver arrived. During that time, we were repeatedly told that someone was on the way, but there was little communication and no realistic updates. Waiting for five hours under these circumstances is simply unacceptable. While the company offered a full refund, this does not make up for the poor organization and lack of an effective emergency plan. A transport company should be able to arrange a replacement driver much more quickly in situations like this. It is a real shame because the trip started so well, but the way this situation was handled completely overshadowed what had otherwise been a positive experience.

Amazing!

Great experience! My fiancee and I had wonderful time traveling with this tour. The landscape around the Highlands is astonishing. Our guide and driver, Scott, has been amazing. It was a safe drive all day long, and he kept the whole trip really interesting! He was really nice and always available. It was lovely.

Great tour!!

Great day trip! Saw so many sights, wish I had seen more cows, such beautiful landscapes, our tour guide David told such great stories! He was friendly and entertaining! He even pointed out all the Harry Potter spots! The only thing I wish was that the tour groups were a bit smaller in large vans and not in a huge coach. Regardless of the size of the coach, I would recommend this day trip!

Overall very good experience

Very good experience even if you are unsure about the places they say history about it. That helps a lot in identifying the places and it was fun when cruise ride was also included along to the trip they do have options for that!! Thank you for the great experience

AMAZING!! A Must-Do

My group of four friends had Alistair this past weekend on our trip to Edinburgh, and it was AMAZING! The day started out early, at 7:30 AM when we had to be at the meeting point. While online it does say "8 AM Departure," be there at 7:30 AM--our bus left around 7:45 AM. Our first stop was this cute store, where we were able to see some highland coos! The store had food options, but it was more grocery-store than cafe. Next was ~1.5-2 hour drive to Glencoe, and the Three Sisters Mountains--this was a highlight of the day. The drive through the highlands, and the mountains themselves were some of the most breathtaking sights I've ever seen--we were lucky enough to have a sunny day, and it made for some excellent pictures! Then we stopped in Fort William for lunch, and only lunch--don't expect to go sightseeing. You stop at a store right next to the coach park, and they serve only a few things for lunch (it's a cafeteria-style)--the only hot food they had was the soup of the day and baked potatoes. They also had cold sandwiches (the kind you find in UK grocery stores), and some baked goods. This place was also a gift shop/store, and my friends and I got some 100% pure cashmere! They had such a selection, as well as knitwear and the normal gift shop items. Then we made our way to Loch Ness, my group bought the Urquhart Castle + Loch Ness Cruise package, which was well worth it. The castle is basically just ruins (but still interesting), we did it in ~1 hour but had 1.5 before the Loch Ness Cruise was going to pick us up. The cruise was nice, but I would not have wanted to spend an hour on it--I would definitely recommend doing the Castle + Cruise option. The Cruise brought us back to our bus driver, and off we went! The drive up through all these locations was on the windy roads of the highlands, so if you get motion sick I would recommend bringing medicine, sitting in the window seat, etc. (I love mints or sleepy for motion sickness), but the drive back is all along highways. We drove back through Inverness, which was cool to drive through. Our final stop was about 2/3 of the way back to Edinburgh, Pitlochry. This was a small highland town, and since we only had 30 minutes there really wasn't much to do. There are some food places, and toilets you need to pay for. It was a long day, we ended up getting back closer to 8:30 PM due to traffic. Alistair was AMAZING, he had a Scottish-themed playlist, and would talk about the songs' meanings before playing them--it was really phenomenal. He mentioned key Outlander and Harry Potter sights, which was really enjoyable as a fan of both. Overall, one of the best day-trips I've ever done!

Great sights and stories!

Alistair was a great tour guide, fun stories along the way but not the whole time! I’ve experienced tour guides who talk non stop and this was a good amount. Weather was fantastic and the instructions were clear. Would highly recommend! Thanks Alistair!

Our Driver made the Loch Ness + very enjoyable!.

The driver and tour guide Brian was exceptional! He made the long trip very fun, otherwise it would have been a very tiring bus drive. We primarily saw the same mountain and river view for many long hours. After 2 hours it become boring. The river boathouse ride was nice, but it took so many hours to get there to ride a boat. It is a long way from Edinburgh, but if you like to see mountains and rivers then this is a good trip.
