Deze privétour van Meteora van Athene naar de heilige kloosters van UNESCO van de rotsachtige bergen van het Meteora-gebied is een onvergetelijke tour! De adembenemende Meteora-rotsen werden 60 miljoen jaar geleden gevormd. Vandaag maakt deel uit van het Natura 2000-netwerk. Er zijn zes kloosters op Meteora: Great Meteoron, Varlaam, Roussanou, Agios Stefanos, Holy Trinity en St. Nicholas. Je bezoekt 2 of 3 van de kloosters, afhankelijk van de dag en het tijdstip dat we bezoeken. De kloosters dateren uit de 14e eeuw en zijn uniek in de wereld vanwege de verbazingwekkende schat aan Byzantijnse en christelijke voorwerpen die je kunt zien. Items zoals de klassieke kleding van de monniken, elegante schilderijen en geëtst glas. In 1981 werd James' Bond-film 'For Your Eyes Only' gedeeltelijk gefilmd in het klooster van de Heilige Drie-eenheid. Stop vervolgens een bezoek aan het Thermopylae-museum waar koning Leonidas en zijn 300 tegen de Perzen vochten. Onze laatste stop is in het kustplaatsje Kammena Vourla, waar we u 's middags koffie of thee aan zee aanbieden.

De Meteora is een rotsformatie in Centraal-Griekenland die een van de grootste en meest steil gebouwde complexen van oosters-orthodoxe kloosters herbergt, de tweede in belang alleen voor de berg Athos. Kledingvoorschrift is belangrijk bij een bezoek aan de kloosters van Meteora: vrouwen moeten hun schouders bedekken en een lang shirt dragen, mannen kunnen geen korte broek dragen. Thermopylae (Thermopiles) is wereldberoemd vanwege de slag waarbij 300 Spartanen, onder leiding van koning Leonidas, in augustus 480 v.Chr. hun beroemde standpunt innamen tegen de Perzische indringers. We zullen het Innovative Centre of Historical Information bezoeken, opgericht om de herinnering aan de historische strijd te bewaren en de details van dit conflict uit te leggen.
Kamena Vourla is een pittoresk stadje aan de kust en ligt ten zuiden van de archeologische vindplaats Thermopylae, direct naast de snelweg naar Athene. Een erg leuke stop voor een kopje koffie of thee in de middag voordat je de stad Athene bereikt.

Our tour to Meteora with Petros was one of the highlights of our time in Athens. This is an amazing place and a must do. The countryside of Greece is so very different from Athens even the drive was beautiful. Petros is an experienced and professional driver; he filled our drive with interesting, insightful and peaceful conversation but was also sensitive to give us rest and quiet when needed. With Petros as our driver it was not necessary to have a guide to take us into the monasteries. He even shared several recipes with me after we returned. I will definitely book with Athens Premier Tours and Transfers on future trips to Athens and I will be looking for Petros. This is a must do!l and a great value both in terms of money and time. Amazing tour. The pictures are are not even close to the actual view. It was worth it. Our driver, Yannis, was wonderful. The day started with him picking us up in a luxury vehicle at our Airbnb and it ended with h dropping us off at the same location. He had a lot of information about what we went to see. The ride to the location was beautiful. I loved this experience. Worth the money.
